Being a SoCal surfer who enjoys a bit of power, Corban Campbell has been obsessed with Mainland Mexico for decades. He’s already been a couple times this summer, most recently to a familiar, consistent, shifty beachbreak. "I'm always looking for just a nice big, clean peak," he said. "And you don't necessarily want it perfect -- some mixed in extras, like where the takeoff spot is, how it moves around and it's all just open to interpretation. You can challenge yourself to see what you got. You can find your own zone.”

As he moves into building his second coffee shop, as his family grows, Campbell is still figuring out ways to make it work. "I'm always looking," Campbell said. "It depends on my lady and my kid, what's going on in our lives and if there's a window, and like trying to make it all balance where if there's something she wants to do, we just take turns and then do trips together." Hit play above to see Campbell's most recent Mainland score, along with some valuable travel advice for anyone who wants to balance chasing good surf with a growing family and business. (Hint: it's all about setting priorities and being strategic.)

I like the little lecture at the beginning. Dude, some people didn't have it as easy as you did. Some people don't own coffee shops and will never, ever, no matter how hard they work, EVER make enough money to own a business, or enough to work very little while they're still young. Bit of a nepo-baby attitude there. That being said, nice waves, looks fun.

Lesson learned, as usual, don’t travel with boards 😂🤙🏽😎🖤
  • I call these so-called success people DINK’s (Dual Income No Kids), and where is his wife? He shapes his own boards and owns a coffee shop. Yeah Ok, whatever. This is why I left CA after 57yrs. Born and raised in San Diego. I do miss surfing and fish tacos 😂
