The impressive desert and mountainous areas of Iran and Uzbekistan are a traveler’s dream destination. In the desert city of Yazd we encounter places and traditions of the Persian Zoroastrian religion. In Kerman we get intimate impressions of a family’s preparations for the New Year’s celebration Nowruz. Then it’s on to bigger adventures: snowy mountains, incredible heights, salt deserts and finally the incredible desert scenery of Kalout. Our way is also paved by the fascinating and open people we meet: a camel breeder, women who share their stories of peasant life, a Sufi Master and herbalist who lets us in on the secrets of his trade and religious practice.

Farsi language is like music to my ears. It's so beautiful hearing Iranians speak Farsi. It sounds so tender and sweet.
  • I was in Iran twice. 1st time 6 weeks in early 1978. Fell in love with it. On my return from India I had to move fast since there was a war to push out the Shah & altho people were loudly expressing anti-American sympathies, they made a huge effort to let me know I was safe and nobody looked at me cross-eyed in the 4 days it took me to hitchhike to Turkish border. I love Iran no matter what their politics or belief system may be. Iranis are extremely hospitable and cultivated. Go and see!
