Sorry for the rambling nature of the vid. I'm not good at planning them out, and sometimes trip over my own thoughts. I also can't edit videos currently. Don't know how, nor do I have the time/energy. Which is why it's all very messy

Anyway this is a vid on the negatives of LED streetlights. You'll notice I said streetlights, not bulbs. As I actually like low watt LED lightbulbs. My gripe is just with street lights.

  • Completely agree with everything you say in this video. I wanted to add that these harsh white LED streetlights are incredibly ugly, dangerous (glare and risk of eye damage and interfering with paying attention to the road), and badly designed without aesthetics, and they completely ruin the nightscapes of both city and suburban areas, and even worse, rural areas. I can't even begin to tell you how depressing these lights are especially since not only are they grossly inefficient but the light they do give off creates a very cold and unwelcoming atmosphere and it makes the neighborhood feel more like a high-security prison yard or a mine site, and they also create areas of brightly lit pockets but also areas of pitch darkness that you cannot see into even if you're paying attention. This makes the entire neighborhood actually look a lot less pleasant and more inviting to criminals and gangs as they can hide in those dark areas. They do nothing to improve safety. On the contrary, I wouldn't be surprised if this ugly lighting is actually culpable in creating more antisocial behavior as it's depriving future generations of gentle night-time please and romance (In the sense of bringing joy to one's soul) and instead is causing distress and anxiety (white light at night is unbelievably ugly and evil). I'm not someone who buys into the idea that these are some kind of 'weapon' or some 'evil agenda' by some dirty rotten government. I just think that these lights are a byproduct of 'cheap' light that is very low-quality and a sick obsession with 'effiency' and 'saving money' or some kind of bullshit like that. I think these lights are actually a symptom of something much uglier: A loss of appreciation for aesthetics and beauty in our general environment, whether natural or man-made and this I think is creating a very ugly, and harsh scenery that could generate more antisocial behavior, even in those who were raised well and are good-natured at heart. We seriously need to get a campaign together and get these ultra-bright white lights removed from our outdoor urban streetscapes and replaced either with Amber LED streetlights that can be dimmed after a certain hour, and/or return back to both high and low pressure sodium lights, both of which are far superior and much safer for peoples eyes than these LED abominations that blight our nightscapes.Of course, they should have visor designs put in place to make sure the light goes where it needs and NOT into the sky and cause light pollution which is just as bad, if not worse, than both chemical and noise pollution.

You're welcome to come and live in my country, Cambodia because it's nice and dark.
  • light pollution is already a known thing , especially to birds, insects, et. I was hoping that when I stumbled on your complaints, it had to do with the combination of bluetooth wifi-camera/ "gunshot responding" tech they are introducing. "1984" comes to mind, with big brother watching....they say they arent supervising the video, but yes they are using these cameras, and they have been hardly accurate in the "gunshot " recognition. I also foresee mistaken identity in police instances...to point out, they say they are just updating to LED, (and yes, they are)...but there are ulterior motives
