Part one of FRONTLINE’s four-hour series on the rise of Christianity examines how Judaism and the Roman empire shaped Jesus’ life and traces the beginnings of the “Jesus Movement” in those early years before it was called Christianity.

First broadcast in 1998, “From Jesus to Christ: The First Christians” is an exploration into the life and death of Jesus, and the men and women whose belief, conviction, and martyrdom created the religion we now know as Christianity. Drawing upon historical evidence, the series challenges familiar assumptions and conventional notions about Christian origins.

The Greatest man in history is Jesus. He had no servants, yet they called him master. He had no degree, yet they called him teacher. He had no medicines, yet they called him healer. He had no army, yet kings feared him. He won no battles, yet he conquered the world. He committed no crime, yet they crucified him. He was buried in a tomb, yet he lives today.

I wish there wasn’t so much religious turmoil in the Middle East because this would be a fascinating area to visit as a Christian.

I've been atheist since I was about 8 I'd say, but was brought up Anglican. Now I'm 31 I feel like I'm only just appreciating how the message of Jesus can be a powerful force in one's individual spiritual journey and to better oneself I'm not quite at the stage where I'll be yelling from the rooftops about it, but I just want to learn more about it and use him as an example to be a better person and try harder to contribute to my community

Always felt better after watching this document. Who doesn't love Jesus? Jesus represents love, kindness, and forgiveness. And Jesus loves to drink wine.
  • Faith is evidence of things unseen things that are hoped for, blessed are those who believe without seeing Hallelujah and Amen
  • "I am a Jew but I am enthralled with the luminous figure of the Nazarene... ...No man can read the gospels without feeling the actual presence of Jesus." Frases Albert Einstein

The greatest gift God has given me is the capacity of love for people. I have so many faults, but caring about people is not one of them.

Some of these experts lack knowledge. "Paul was more famous than Jesus because of his writing?" He wrote about Jesus, and the entire New Testament is about Jesus. "Early Christians were attracted to rituals." This was a free will movement, and countless people died for that belief. I was not attracted to Christianity or any of the rituals- I mocked them. Now I am in love with Jesus because the living God visited me, I received the Holy Spirit and was completely changed.
