Coverage of the first round stage of the men's 4x100m relay event from the Olympic Stadium as the Jamaican and USA teams win their respected heats at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Team GB were disqualified from the race following a illegal baton hand-over so their second place went to Canada with the Netherlands also qualifying as a result.

Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

This timing of London Round 1 Jamaica 37.39 is even faster than Tokyo 2020 Final Italian Timing of 37.50, pretty insane even without Usain Bolt. The Jamaicans were simply stunning at their peak

It never ceases to amaze me that these near genetically perfect individuals, at the peak of human form, train mercilessly for 4 years straight just to show up to an event with more of their kind and do a thing with a stick on a track.

Having the 2 fastest men in history on the same relay team is like using cheat codes

Before the 2008 Olympics, the WR was set by the all conquering USA team lead by Carl Lewis of a 37.4 in β€˜92 Olympics, and here the Jamaican β€˜B’ team casually running it faster.

It's crazy how good Japan is when they don't have nearly the muscle mass as the rest of the teams. Purely twitch muscles.
  • @bentsein
