  • We dont appreciate this man enough. He really hand drew every frame of this video just to make another classic.
  • @Edbound
"nobody really cares about stop-motion" the world feels stacked against us ngl 😔

Arcane was a goddamn top tier show but i know it isnt even going to be nominated for best TV show for Emmys because its animated....some people just dont appreciate art

Animation isn't a genre, it's a medium just the same as any other drama, action, comedy, and more. Animation isn't for children, at least most, since adults can enjoy them too, and they don't make you less of an adult.

“When you’re a kid, nothing touches animation.” I’m 22 and this is still true

“A Silent Voice” is one of the most stunning movies I’ve seen. Yes the story would have worked as a live action but anyone who’s seen it would agree that the melancholy, hopeful, devastating feeling that movie creates would be completely lost if the animation was gone. It’s gorgeous and that story of redemption would not have been as hard hitting in live action.

Castlevania was also a HUGE step forward for Western adult-oriented animation. The animation is very heavily anime influenced with a killer story and brought to life a whole new world. Highly recommend.
  • people look at me weird when i tell them ratatouille is one of my favorite movies of all time. like, it’s not inappropriate in anyway for children but the movie itself like…don’t feel like it’s specifically made for children. it’s the feeling of a piece of art, a story that creative people are invested in telling us, it hits all the notes and more BECAUSE it’s animated.

I AM SO HAPPY YOU TALKED ABOUT THIS. As an artist, shows like Arcane were absolutely astounding, and that paired with plot and pacing made it a 10/10 for me. However, a shill of the show was so difficult because it was 'for kids.' just respect quality shows, animated or not!
  • @Dumas.Mercado
Amazing how this got recommended to me after the disrespect that animation got from the Oscars, where they basically said ''Animation is the thing that kids love, and us adults have to endure.'' Great video, by the way.
  • @lekeopawumi2590
Even the DC animated universe with their mature like movies don't get as much love as they deserve.
  • @nateseger4977
The youtube algorithm clearly doesn’t respect this man nearly enough ALREADY A CLASIC
  • @gabrielnelson
Dude, Prince of Egypt was and still is my JAM. "The Plagues" is still unrivaled in the history of cinema, change my mind.
  • @akanksha6631
Being an Illustrator myself I’ve been wondering how people do not respect animation unless it’s Disney or Pixar. I’ve had people tell me Attack on Titan is basic 💀 The topics you cover on this channel and your take on stuff is always hilarious yet insightful. Especially this one. Didn’t want this video to end! Thanks for doing this x

you said it best: "weirder is better". animation is at its peak when it doesn't try to mimic reality but instead express something beyond it, something that maybe we all felt but never saw. for example the reason bojack connected with so many people isnt because its the most perfect and realistic rendition of an alcohol addict but because it had the freedom to transcend beyond what reality can visually project into our eyes physically by exploring the philosophical and psychological aspect of where these emotions are coming from in a form of a cartoon horse that is so perfectly simple it shuts off the part in our brains thats responsible for thinking "is this a real person?" (because its so obviously not) and makes way for us to meet with the full unfiltered ramifications of alcohol addiction that feel so real that even without noticing, only animation can make us all collectively yet subconsciously go "what if im this person?" and that is so powerful most people aren't ready for that so they'll just keep dismissing it like "a show about a talking horse? lol get out of here you brony weirdo" and thats when i ask myself, does everyone even deserve to enjoy this medium?
  • @Animoumou
As an animator it is so refreshing seeing everyone slowly notice how powerful this art form is. We're in a paradigm shift in animation and I can't wait to be a part of it and share it with the world. Thanks for helping put some respect on us, it means the world. (Also another instant classic LETS GO)
  • @PeterPartTime
The Prince of Egypt is legit one of the best films ever made, animated or not. Beautiful visuals on top of a powerful story, great characters and music that goes way too hard. Great to see more people give that film some love, keep it up Nathan!
  • @aemi5929
Even animation ‘for kids’ can have a lot of value for adults. Netflix’s ‘Hilda’ is my all time favorite show and it just makes me so happy to watch it every time. It’s got this magical quality that I don’t think could be captured in live action no matter how much money you through into it
  • It’s not a movie, but I was able to get my father, best friend, and girlfriend to watch Attack on Titan and agree that it’s one of the best things they’ve ever watched and they don’t watch anime. Hit the nail on the head when you said basically something about how these pieces of art can have amazing stories and set pieces, but then people get turned away when they realize it’s animation
