The way he describes carrying his dead mother's body and only complaining about how much effort it was

When describing the murder he highlights his thought process and his mistakes in such a way it shows that he is proud of what he did and is trying to garner respect for how “clever” he is

To think that his mother endured pregnancy, childbirth, raising him...only to realise within the last few moments of her life that she raised a murderer...a sociopath or psychopath...

This kid is SUCH a narcissist. It's all an act - even his attitude when confessing was fake. He is so desperate for their approval and for them to think he is cool, so he started to pretend like he doesn't even care what happens to him, so therefore, he's acting like it's just a totally casual thing and whatever, no big deal even if he goes to prison. He says "I would have gotten away with it if I hadn't made that one mistake" twice is his grandiose thinking. In reality, he is absolutely terrified throughout this interview.

This detective is a master interrogator. He trips the kid up so many times by being more ready than he is.
