Thurston County has achieved a unique accomplishment in its efforts to end homelessness. It is one of only five cities or counties across the nation to catalog the name and needs of every person living on the street.

It is through an initiative called Built for Zero and it provides a way to offer the right support for people's specific circumstances.

Many if not most counties and cities use a Point in Time count, where volunteers fan out on a single night to tally up how many people are living on the streets.

  • My son, who spent nearly two years on the street, quit the homeless advocate there because he was forbidden from mentioning addiction as a cause of homelessness. When he got clean he left the streets.

Shelters require that people follow rules like no drugs, keep your home clean, no fighting, etc. Many cannot adhere to those rules so they continue to live homeless. They want to be free to continue their criminal behavior in the comunity and they know they will never be held accountable because the court system keeps enabling criminal behavior.

2300 homeless equals Federal cash in the pockets of the Homeless Industrial Complex. Fat money to keep people miserable.
