  • How did I get to my age and have only just heard about this incredible woman? NOW I know where all my favourite guitar licks came from, she gave birth to it all. Wow

Thinking to myself, “jeez I see where the Cramps got that psychobilly sound from”, then realizing Linna was a founding member of the Cramps. Cordell Jackson: godmother of psychobilly.

She was doing Punk before Rock n Roll was invented! Reminds me of the Velvet underground. I was lucky enouph to meet her at Sun Records in 94 and get an autograph from her.

I interviewed Cordell Jackson at her home in Memphis in 1996 and she was lot of fun. Her house was yellow and car was also yellow! Memphis songwriter Jimmy Denson was our connection to Cordell and she showed us the room that had every Memphis record label from the 1940,s-50,s-60,s etc.She let me tape an hour interview and it was great.

Best thing I’ve seen with the MTV banner in over a decade.
  • Daaaam.. found out about Cordell just this morning.. When I hear her tunes.. I can recognize much of those sound familiar from famous rock bands I know today.. Seems like they many of them owe part of their melodies to her.

I meet her in 1982 on a Country Music stage show in Millington, TN. I was with the house band when she set in with us. She did 2 songs in her high energy style. You can imagine what it did to a country audience? Mouths flew open. That was before she became famous. We all sorta thought she was a little off in the head but that different combination along with her age is what took her to a Internationale stage. I saw her a few years later on the David Letterman Show. I guess she showed us!

Cordell was an American original and a real sweet gal , besides . The first Female Producer/Engineer. No one told her how to do it , she was the Mother of D.I.Y. .It just took the rest of the world this long to catch up , but we did. Her live shows were great , and Hell , yes , she played rings around Brian Setzer.
  • Amazing that MTV used to actually have original music-related programming that wasn't total shit.
  • @leahfry3537
