On an unrelated note, Oda once stated in an SBS that if Enel were to receive a bounty, he would’ve had a bounty of $500 million. Luffy’s bounty at the time of Skypeia was $100 million for reference Bounties aren’t entirely indicative of one’s strength, but this does go to show a glimpse of Enel’s overall threat level to the WG

I think skypea gain a lot of reconization when people reread it. Most of people were young when they read skypea and it's a little bit more an " adult " and the least adapted for child
  • @shinjitetora
i think what people fail to remember about sykpeia is that new readers got to enjoy skypeia in its entirety. People who have found out about one piece recently get to catch up on 1000 chapters as fast as they can. but back when you were reading the manga on scan sites and you had one chapter per week THAT is the real reason this arc felt like forever to a lot of us. Can you imagine reading skypeia ONE CHAPTER A WEEK?!

Compared to Wapol, who inherited his power through monarchy, Enel was granted power just because he happened to eat a strong devil fruit. Because nobody had the power to stop him, he could do what he wanted without any consequence. Sometimes terrible people end up in positions of power not because they earned it, but simply because it was given to them. I think Enel's character makes a bit more sense if viewed from this perspective.

Skypiea was the arc that got me to love One Piece. I love the adventurous aspect of it and it was well written. I think it resonates more with folks that admire the romance of the adventure itself, going some place that people deem is non-existent and only for dreamers. It would be my favorite arc if the next arc wasn't so crazy amazing.
  • @that70sjunkie
Because people have bad taste, Skypiea is the best arc.
  • @keanus9871
I love One Piece for the adventure and the themes and emotional payoffs. So the mystery/adventure with finding Shandora and the emotions wrapped up in ringing the bell are amazing to me. Skypeia has always been one of my favorites
  • @TheDarkSatirist
Responding based on the title of the video before I watch: a number of people have argued that it doesn’t contribute to the overall plot in an important way (not to spoil anything, but it does just not immediately) and people that only watched the anime also had to deal with weird way it paced and dragged out parts of Skypeia. I think overall it has to do with people not using their critical reading skills and refusing to engage with this story and themes on any deep level

Skypiea is one of my favorites! Like top 5 arcs. I also liked a lot of the explanations and thought Oda put into how things worked. It made being up in the clouds feel like a different world.
  • @paperstars9078
some people theorize skypiea is a microcosm of all of one piece, well we will find out eventually...
  • @sodedra5855
I would like to add that Skypiea has lots of symbolism and hidden clues that are easily missed if you don’t care about the mystery aspect of the story which is why some people consider it “irrelevant” even though the author obviously created the arc for a reason
  • @Gumbaschu
When it comes to ambivalent public perception, I think the following 2 factors are the most important: 1. Although One Piece is more about adventure, worldbuilding and comedy, many people focus on the fighting parts and tend to downgrade arcs without a fighting focus. The same applies to later arcs such as Thriller Bark. Many almost demand this typical ‘in the end every straw hat fights an opponent and gets a powerup’ and are disappointed when this doesn't happen in the classic way like in Alabasta and Arlong Park. + To be honest, the antagonists, with the exception of Enel, aren't particularly interesting either, which reinforces everything. 2 One Piece is quite long and I have the feeling that many people want to shorten the journey as much as possible. Since Skypia is more thematically linked to the One Piece world and has less direct influence on the Grandline plot, some people quickly lose interest in the arc or don't give it a chance from the start. In addition, the next big arc is one of the most popular arcs in the whole of One Piece, which is why the pressure to skip a ‘filler’ arc is even greater. Coupled with the somewhat slower pacing, the impatient fall into a kind of hole and want everything to just move on quickly. To bad if the arc is the second longest at that point in the story. And when you get to that stage, you almost can't appreciate Skypia anymore because your mind is already somewhere else.
  • @Omegateck16
Its because the anime drags it out for a longer time then even the slowish pacing for this arc in the manga. Enel is a mixed bag as a villian. People also think its a side quest story that doesn't further the plot (which I've known in recent years is 100% incorrect). Although I will say it does get more love on reread or nowadays people realize its way better then people think.
  • @boitaho
Hi Shelly! You're around 3 story sagas of around 11 sagas at this point - East Blue, Arabasta/Alabasta, Skypiea. I don't personally hate Skypiea, but just in the larger scheme of things, it definitely could have been condensed a tiny bit, and it definitely pales in comparison. Also, like probably majority of people, they watched the anime and not read the manga which got padded a lot and thus made the slow parts of the story even slower with basically almost nothing happening and making the story not move forward. Another insight from another booktuber which I incidentally just watched yesterday, Merphy Napier, that in her reread, the Skypiea story is very disconnected to the pirate world that the readers/viewers are already slowly getting acclimated to. There's practically no marines and no pirates. That factor might have been why some readers/viewers found it hard to "care" for the story.
  • This is one of the things I wonder the most because it's LITERALLY the best arc in One Piece.
  • @StephenMeek
The layering of storylines is the part of Skypia that makes it my favorite. It's all combined in one single moment with one single symbol: the ringing of the bell.
  • @Dezarc
skypiea is like the one piece story in microcosm - there's an impossible treasure that everyone says is either not real or not worth the trouble of finding, but our crew finds it anyway and vindicates all the previous seekers also my brother and i have talked at length how after luffy says 'compass points up? okay, point rudder up' and it actually works, none of his future plans seem impossible, just absurd
  • @Darji8114
the funny part is that skypiea plays a much bigger role into the whole story than many people thought when it first was released. Also aferwards it will be outclassed by the maybe best ARC in the entire series for many people. So yeah going from Skiypiea to Water 7 feels like a whole other level.
  • @fakero0009
I really like how deeply you dig into the story and the themes of One Piece. There is so many secrets and questions One Piece's world has and your videos make me feel like I'm experiencing this story for the first time.
  • @Rishain
skypia get so much hate becasue it sits between alabasta and the next arc your coming upon , 2 of the greatest arcs
