Ultimate Darts Challenge: Did I Improve My 41-Point Darts Average?

Published 2024-08-01
The official new average is announced, I throw some doubles, I rant a lot today. Apologies for your ears.

I also talk about tickets for the World Championships being sold to resellers. Darts in the Olympics. Gary Anders, Public Executions. Things got out of hand.

Enjoy your arrows

  • lil recc for playing 501 since ppl are suggesting it: play solitare 501, but you give yourself so many turns to do it in ( an example would be to finish under 30 darts as often as you can, adjust where neccessary ). But it needs to be a number that pushes you just enough, while also enjoying it. In the first year I used to try and finish in 7 turns. If I don't leave a finish by the end of turn 6 I restarted. I only did it once or twice in about a year when I first started, and when I tried it again two years later I did it more often like once a month. But it happens more regularily when playing 501 in general, so it's not neccessarily truly reflective of how I'd play entirely without the solo aspect. But, for me this was fun, and it also meant that it added game pressure. It was frustrating, but worth it. Taught me a bit more about setup shots, and similated playing someone with a 70 ish avg without needing an opponent. Might sound lonely, but I found it very useful for getting used to a small amount of match nerves, while also surprising myself when nearly getting a 21 darter but missing the double on the 21st dart. But I had my own reasons to do it this way. You can just as well do the same with a dart bot or play someone in general.

Love the Willy Wonka reference and love the shirt. Keep it up man! still following you progress.

I practice with 6 darts instead of three. It helps me hone my throw more effectively. PLUS 50% less time walking back and forth and more time throwing and 'learning' is my philosophy here. Obviously two sets of the same darts and flights are required, but if you enjoy this game, why not treat yourself? Life's too short...
  • Was throwing darts terribly and you talked about the follow through. That helped me throw better… need to work on it myself 😂 cheers bro
  • You deserve the increase mate , after the doubts you had set in last month 😢 You have really kick on in july and i think the key has been that you have enjoyed throwing those arrows again !! Keep throwing and keep focused samson 👊

Happened in Southend the other day, 60+ kids from London came here with knifes/swords and machetes.
  • Are you interested in having games online like on Nakka or?
  • @mclyker
You may have said already.... But what do you do to calculate your average?
  • im not neccesarily for or against the popularity in darts, it has good and bad both for me and all. but heres some things i considered: ( wall of text. no tldr, sorry ) - the popularity increase for darts means more revenue and bums on seats. thats money for the big guys, and the players, but also, more compeititveness, which judging by the gamesmanship in football as the money has increased, means more people are willing to bend the rules to get those prizes and social status. meaning, the chance of more unsavory individuals rising to the top. but the standard WILL go up, because its not neccessarily linked that the narcissistic tendencies of players is whats to blame, but the pressures and dealing with that tends to attract people who are capable of handling that pressure much more. on this regard, i think at one point it wont matter if a prize is 50,000 or 250,000, at some point itll be less meaningul ( if it happens ). it also means more employable a business, more people will get involved in other aspects of the game and not just playing. announcers, referees, entertainment side ( it seems bands are becoming more a thing, entirely possible that when the logistics are sorted, itll attract live bands and performers like rugby has in the last decade or two ) - equipment quality and prices will change. imo, the quality products of price will increase. flippers will become attracted at one point which will drive up prizes due to the popularity. tickets may also become touted more, however from my experiences and what ive seen theyre on top of this already. so more likely knock off gear becomes more a thing. like t shirts with ai images on em lol and various other silly little bits and bobs. which will attract = resellers, dodgy salesmen, scammers. however, authenticity will become much more a thing, meaning its possible auctioning and collecting will become more profitable, and more knowledge required to identify real/fake as the forgeries become better quality - it may push to become one of the top most popular sports. its not neccessarily the most popular because generally amongst people football is currently said to be the driving successor atm. but this means that kids will get into it younger, likely pushing the average age of darters down. which means, the bias of thinking "you have to start young or else you might as well not bother" will become more engrained and not given as much thought. which means, i believe, the darters with genuine knowledge and intentions will likely become more humble, while the more unsavory kinds may seek to make a profit and push their own agendas and profits. - we may see more innovation from players, whereby it becomes more a creative pursuit, meaning the skills and flair of it becomes a sideshow, and like freestyling in football, becomes a performative entertainment aspect rather than an actual competitive thing ( unless for a variety act of some kind ). dont be surprised if some guys step up to BGT throwing darts at apples in peoples mouths or something, note: DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS AT HOME. sensible warning, really... bear in mind ALL OF THIS IS MY OPINION, so its probably a lot of rubbsih and you shouldnt bother putting faith into any or all this ive just said. it may just as well tank the other end and darts becomes more obsucre and we find some weird reinvention years down the line on The Ocho or something.
