    One thing I noticed is on your reach back you still hold the disc on hyzer and then correct it to flat on your pull through. You’ll get a smoother throw if you have the disc level on your reach back and level on your follow thru. It’s the same idea of your follow thru being the same as the angle of your disc. Having it on the same angle all the way through will make it smoother. Just wanted to say, loved the video! And I hope this can help you!

    New subscriber here. I realize this is a 3 year old video, but it's a really good one. As a novice, I learned a ton. Content suggestion: It might be fun to do the "7 days of focus on one thing" but do it on someone else more novice.

    Great video!! I’m 52 and just started I have a severe herniated disc that creates pain not only in back but numbness in my left leg. I tried the x step but it’s painful to accomplish. But this technique is awesome I can still enjoy the sport and get a little more distance without frustration. Thanks again!

    Day 4 was definitely my favorite to watch! You: "I can't imagine its gonna be that simple, but we'll see" Me: "Oh he's in for a big surprise" your reaction did not disappoint! The follow through tip is one of my favorites and was a game changer for me last season! That course you played looks incredible, I'd love to play it one day. Keep up the great content dude!

    Helpful Footwork Tip: You're rotating too soon/too much on your plant-foot (i.e. Lisa Fajkus). This is preventing you from bracing your front leg (offering resistance) long enough so all the power from your lower body can be transferred upwards to your arm/disc. The energy you create during the x-step & reach-back is being dissipated by your early foot rotation (opening of the hips). If you're falling forward and off the tee during follow through, you're doing it wrong (unless you're James Conrad). You still have a ton of unrealized power that is not being optimized.

    One of the best things I heard about "reach back" is to think of it less of reaching back, but more about moving around the disc and when your arm ends up being fully extended, that's when you want your timing to line up so you can snap. Scott stokely did a cool video on "snap" that really helped to simplify what is often so over complicated. Also I'm jealous because it's been -18 and snowy where I'm at...

  • Self reflection is a great thing. Not only for everyday life but also disc golf..... You mentioned about thinking through all of the steps when throwing and I have found that it definitely can mess a person up. I try to clear my mind and launch without over thinking what I am doing. When I think about every little detail I usually mess up my shot/launch.

    awesome. Thanks for showing the whole process and including the "errors" or things that didn't fully improve. I can't stand that most disc golf videos ONLY show what you're supposed to do and the "good" example of it. it helps to see when something doesn't work and pointing it out then explaining why it didn't work right. I also watched Philo's video and the neutral body position thing was the biggest help for me. My shoulders and hips were pointed to the sky at release and I NEVER even realized it even when trying to throw it low down hill. I'll have to try the follow-through tip as well.

  • As a new player of about 3 months, this is probably THE most useful mechanics breakdown I've seen, and I've watched HOURS of videos!! I am currently a predominantly forehand thrower, only because I'm devastatingly inconsistent with my backhand. Problem is, I'm tearing up my elbow from my baseball playing days! This actually allows me to work on each aspect of the backhand. Great work!

    Its so great to see personal growth! I'm really excited for you. As far as reach back is concerned, Ezra Aderhold had a video in which he states that when you start your Xstep, you leave your disc in place, so that when you physically step forward, your disc does not leave that space until you snap your hips.(basically) your disc from x-step to twist is in the same spot, your body is what moves forward, creating an "explosive elastic" maneuver in your arm. This also was said to prevent "rounding" in your throw.

    great video. looking forward to the OAT one. the follow through thing is huge. when I first realized that the disc's angle matches the follow through, I started paying attention to pro tournament footage. you can watch their follow through only, and if it's a fairly neutral disc at that speed, it will always match and you can know the flight just from the follow through. it's like when simon lizotte said he can tell if someone throws far just by looking at their feet.

    Great tips ... I have been playing for 20+ years and my form is junk lol and my disc selections as junk ... it’s something I’m working on this year ... I got heavy in to science of discs and how they fly last year ... so understanding that has actually helped my form knowing what a disc should do

    Heck of a video! Crazy improvements. I think that the reach back and pull through is the hardest part about developing good form and I'm still working on my form. Great video!
  • I'm a beginner, and have been for about forty years. 😂 I can't throw a driver more than about 220 feet or so consistently. I am not alone, and those of us like me need more videos aimed at us, the average player.
  • I loved watching this you made a lot of improvements. Though one thing that I think is attributing to your off axis torque is when you reach back you reach down at an angle then as you pull through you have to lift up your arm to flat which is causing more a tourquey form. For example if you watch eagle throw in slo motion he reaches straight back and the disc stays the same height off the ground. When I was working on my form what i always thought about was once my back foot planted during my x step I would try and keep the disc in the same spot above the ground until my reach back peaked when my front foot planted then I would pull through. Hope that helps keep up the great work 🙂

    I am by no means trying to claim anything more than the "I like to play" ability, but I noticed something we used to have in common, Your plant foot is going too far in front of your body, so your rotation is coming from your off hip. Giving you that hardcore body spin after the release. I found that stepping further to the right of my body(towards the basket) kept my hips from turning away as far in my reach back, which had a few forced corrections. such as 1. my right hip moves backward instead of my left hip going around. 2 greater separation between my hips and shoulders with less extension of my arm during reach back, 3. better accuracy and distance with less upper body exertion. Sounds crazy but the "Uncoiling" has become entirely automatic. You can feel the natural "push back" from your plant leg into your hip. Hope it helps!
