I’m reading all the comments while I’m watching this and damn I’m lowkey shook bcuz I’m Asian and I speak like this. My friends speak like this. They’re all Asians. People at my school speaks like this they’re Indian, Asian, Black and Caucasian. I guess it’s just idk maybe you get influenced after hanging out with the people around you? Or watching videos on YouTube some people speak like that so you get influenced ?? But none of us mean to sound like we are Black because we all respect them. Just wanted to get that out there because from my view it was normal because I grew up with friends around me speaking like that or I grew up watching videos or YouTubers speaking like that.
  • they sound like some middle aged teachers trying to relate to their students when they use those words

i learned something new today (AAVE) by reading the comment section. English is a foreign language to me. and even though i studied English Linguistics in college, AAVE isn't one of them. thank you, everyone!

"He is the cEo of Stephen Curry's fAAmdoon yo" - Mark Lee 2020

For people who don’t know what AAVE is: AAVE is a vernacular specific to black Americans. No not all black American people use AAVE, but many black Americans do use it. I definitely understand why people are offended. Steph Curry is a black American. These are words and phrases that are apart of AAVE. It’s almost as if they are using these terms with him because he is black. I doubt this was their intention. Personally, No I do not think Mark or Johnny meant to offend with this video. Like you and many other people, I don’t think they even understand AAVE. Mark is from Vancouver, Canada which does not have many black people. Additionally, Johnny is from Northbrook, a suburb of Chicago, which is less than one percent black. I doubt there was malice or harm intended with this video. No, AAVE is not slang. It’s an entire vernacular. Yes it’s commonly (mis)used by people because they don’t understand the concept of AAVE and many people like emulating black Americans. I hope this clears things up!
