📚 Boox Palma: The E-Reader Phone?! | review

I first learned about the Boox Palma about a month ago and finally ordered one last night because I couldn't stop thinking about it. I love that it runs on Android and users aren't limited to one specific ecosystem! I previously bought an iPad to read books that I can't access on my Kindle, but I don't like reading on my tablet or my phone. It's also great that users can customize the buttons.

Thank you for your honest opinion! I'm hoping they will add a sim card option, then the Boox Palma is a standalone device that can replace a smartphone. I think it will appeal to people who want to cut down on social media etc. But it's such a cool device already!

Hopefully a better color version with Android 14 is coming out soon. This device is getting dated and long in the tooth.

Is Audible not supported by Palma?

I have boox Palma and here is what you need to know: 1. Listening boox with wireless earbuds : impossible after 10 min or smth. It overheats, starts loosing connection. Impossible to continue. 2. You will miss typing vibration that you usually have at messengers. 3. It is not that precise at typing as a normal phone. 4. Word prediction? Forget about that. It works too slow. 5. Can it replace the phone? No. You need colored ink display for browsing and apps like YouTube music. Carta makes complex pictures with details as a black unreadable squares. Reading 10/10 Messaging 8/10 Security 6/10 Browsing 3/10 Note taking 6/10 Buy it only if you don't have Hisense ink phones available for purchase.

does it have dictionary/ translation touch(words) feature just like in kindle?

Hoopla is acting up on me. It will not update my Library Card.

You cannot listen to audiobooks on Hoopla on the Palma

6GB RAM on this, not 8.

It's too expensive. More than double the price of the kindle in South Africa. Where a kindle costs 4K +. A Boox Palma is not worth it at all here in South Africa.
