Don't ever think of not charging for your services. It's far from a good advice. If you ever consider working for free go knock on the biggest studio near you and then, maybe, offer something that they can't resist, like an internship, otherwise you're helping set the expectations on art to be free which is already a thing. So charge for your work, always!!!

Never offer your work for free. Never. You'll save yourself from SO MANY bad experiences that usually want "free work" or "free samples" etc. Avoid them at all costs. It'll help you be professional from the start. Respect yourself, respect your time and people will respect you as a pro.
