Dear Miranda , I love your YouTube channel. I especially appreciate your focus being everything British!!!
  • I always love looking for kids books and classics for my little ones at garage sales and thrift stores.

I love buying from World of Books as they are high on the most ethically sound list. But I seem to find a book to buy wherever I go😊 Today it was a vintage copy of a Few Green Leaves by Barbara Pym. I really enjoy your vlogs, thank you.
  • Loved this video! I adore vintage books, they have such charm! All your finds were lovely but I especially love the puffin paperbacks - those beautiful covers! Teddy Robinson is such a favourite of mine and brings me many happy memories of reading him to my daughter too when she was younger.

What a fantastic collection of books you got for Β£2. I've always loved collecting secondhand books and I was lucky enough to buy a bookshop with my husband three years ago. We sell new and secondhand books but the trouble is my own collection is now getting even bigger because I keep seeing books I want when people bring in the books they no longer wish to keep or, sadly, collections from a deceased relative.

Your post made me nostalgic for all the books I read as a child. I forgot about "The Borrowers" books. I remember getting them at my elementary school library (which was my favorite place at school) and being enchanted by them. A country fair in the English countryside sounds idyllic to this New Yorker!
  • Miranda, I loved this video showing your secondhand books haul. I am a huge fan of secondhand and vintage books. I love browsing through thrift shops and garage/yard sales looking for book treasures. Thank you for sharing your purchases, and I have added many of the titles to my "look for" list. Have a great day!

I buy many vintage books. I especially love rereads from my childhood and books set in or written about the early 1900s. Loved your newest purchases !!
  • Miranda - thanks so much for showing all these vintage Puffin books - these make me feel so nostalgic for texts that are now out of print, as well as for the classic tv show "Jackanory". It makes me realise how spoiled my generation was, in terms of having resources around that really encouraged us to love books.
  • I adore Teddy Robinson too and have that very edition from my childhood. it was a real favourite.

Lovely video as always Miranda - I'm still in awe of your GBP2.00 haul! Treasures! πŸ˜‚ I do like a secondhand book rummage, though I rarely have a chance to engage in book hunts as opportunities to buy secondhard books in Hong Kong are limited...and the prices are often not exactly a 'bargain'! πŸ˜‚ I will also occasionally buy vintage books. My most recent purchases include a copy of The Beautiful Visit by Elizabeth Jane Howard and The Correspondence of Andre Gide and Edmund Gosse edited by Brugmans, both from the 1950s. Earlier in the year, I also splurged on a six-volume collection of 1950s pocket editions of EM Forster works - but that's the type of purchase that only happens once in a very rare while! πŸ˜…πŸ˜… Look forward to seeing more of your secondhand and vintage buys if you decide to share more in the future. 😊😊

Love to reread. Now, I love to relisten over and over to your book club discussions. Everyone has such great insights!!!

So many wonderful books πŸ’›. I particularly loved the Puffin book covers. Made me feel very nostalgic - I have fond memories of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe being read to us at school!
  • I love vintage books I just picked up How to get on in the world published in 1895. Am so delighted to have found someone who shares my taste in books. Have gotten many of your suggestions and enjoyed them all thoroughly.

Wow what a fabulous haul, I’m green with envy πŸ˜†!!

Such charming finds! I love playing detective in brick-and-mortar, second-hand bookshops. I must admit I do it a lot less often now that Abebooks is at my fingertips. Autumn seems like the perfect season to curl up with nostalgia, a childhood book and a cup of tea. Or cider. The Puffin books are sweet. My stack of recent Abe purchases is right by my feet. Uttley's The Country Child is on top, and I'm just now realizing that it is a Puffin edition. Happy coincidence! I love the front-to-back artwork. I can see why the Puffins appeal to collectors. This was great fun, thank you.

You are so good at talking in front of the camera. I aspire to be like that. I loved seeing the books you picked up!
  • I'm so happy to have found your channel. I adore vintage everything and you have found some treasures there. I like hardcovers so had a look for the hardcover of Period Piece. I found one online for the bargain price of $1,138 Australian dollars! I think I may have to stick with the paperback! There are cheaper ones than that, of course, but postage is always the problem to Australia. I collect those childrens' Puffins as well - they are so special.

I’m saving the China Court video for when I finish it (I had a bit too much on my plate), looking forward πŸ€— to that video and this one, vintage books is my jam πŸ“šπŸ’›πŸ“š

I love browsing used and vintage books. I don’t always find what I want, but it’s the thrill of the hunt that keeps going to charity shops, or half price book shops. I’m on the hunt right now for the vintage Peter Rabbit set. πŸ’™
