When Churchill was alive, someone suggested that he become known as the greatest Briton, to which he replied: 'Alfred was the greatest'!

I'm American myself but I can't get enough of English history. Seriously almost every aspect it's just so addicting. Alfred the great is hands down my favorite English King, what he did not only for the nobility, but for all of England and their future is inspiring. If ever there were a king truly picked by God, It would have been Alfred the Great.

Yikes. That’s a rough ending. Sad to see people forgetting their ancient hero kings who had such a huge role in shaping their national identity and history. Glad to see you immortalizing and sharing the greatness of King Alfred.

I was born in Winchester and often admire the great statue that sits in the heart of Winchester of Alfred the Great. My mother attended King Alfred’s teaching college. I’d love if there was more history like this documentary on the city itself and it’s development

  • Alfred The Great was my favorite England king. In my opinion there wouldn't be a England to this day without Alfred Rex. Much respect for Alfred from me. What a great man he was. Hands down awesome guy all around. RIP Alfred The Great. Gone but will never be forgotten in history!!!

No one does the English Monarchy better than the People Profiles.
  • He layed the foundation for what we now call England, without alfred it highly likely we would all speak Danish or Norwegian.
  • I've been on a medieval England deep dive ever since I listened to the 'Alfred the great' episode on Hacks From the Past podcast. I could not believe that I had not heard this story before. What an amazing story! I seriously can't get enough.
  • a beautiful documentary on Alfred. I hope that there will be documentaries done on his descendants. I enjoy any history; but, early British history is a favorite.

Alfred is a continuing inspiration. We were lucky to have him.
  • Astonishing Alfred and wonderful Anglo-Saxon history. We Europeans are mixed with so many tribes over the centuries to become the unique Western hemisphere we are today. 🤠
  • Unbelievable what was done to his remains. Thank you for a very knowledgeable documentary on England's first modern king.
  • The true definition of a leader. Leading his men in combat, and defending his people. We need men like him now
  • Years ago I was privileged to participate in an archeological dig in Winchester looking for Alfred's burial site. Didn't find him... but did handle some monk's bones and plenty of melted stain glass... Cromwell was there before us I'd guess. It was a glorious segment of my life. Love Winchester... they bake good bread. :)
