There's nothing like being able to experience Subaru's time with FF7 games, and especially her rollercoaster of emotions here, as I think it's what's what we all went through with the ending. Especially in comparison to Zack's departing, "mata na" where she's certain he'll survive, as they fly off Aerith's, "sayonara" carries SUCH a heavy tone of a final goodbye in Japanese that it really hits like a truck making it perfectly clear even after it really feels like you've got a happy ending – you realize it's just hallucinations keeping the fragmented bits of Cloud barely held together, and Subaru has a lot of really solid observations about just how broken Cloud is at this point. The part that got me the most going back through this a second time is the way that we experience everything from Cloud's dissociative point of view, but especially when you pay close attention to the other members' reactions. In the final scenes, Tifa is the only character without ANY line of dialogue, because she feels like she not ONLY just lost Aerith but that she also lost Cloud, too – which is the thing that she was more worried about than anything else in Chapter 9 when she started to see the little bits of his personality slowly disappearing more and more to just be a copy of Sephiroth. Meanwhile, Barret is always the one stepping in to cover when she doesn't know how to respond, because even though Barret sees Cloud having conversations with someone who isn't there and acting like an unhinged monster that he can't control – that's EXACTLY what happened with Dyne did when Barret found him, so he already knows how to handle that burden emotionally when Tifa can't bear it all at once. Rebirth really did a better version than EVER of showing what the PTSD and all of Cloud's moments of his memory just blanking out things he experienced and overwriting continuity to be cohesively consistent that he's been doing ever since Remake but the other part is that the very first time in Chapter 2 of Remake when he has a PTSD flashback and talks to Sephiroth, he acknowledges that he killed Sephiroth and knows that he's dead, so now having Aerith in that exact same role to Cloud's fractured mind is exceptionally interesting for getting a better understanding of what Cloud's been experiencing for both games so far (on top of having a lot of nuanced details rooted in a very realistic depictions of how maladaptive traumatic coping mechanisms can manifest connected to traumatic loss). Thanks as always for these translated clips!

Seeing this a second time, it makes it even more devastating. I didn’t cry as much the first time
  • @Rosamune
Appreciate all the clips so far, I hope you can post a few more like her reactions to the date scenes/loveless and some other ending scenes
  • @oozarusama
There is no stronger farewell word than a SAYONARA in Japanese, never try to compare it with a simple goodbye in English or Spanish, this is more about their culture and their emotions and the depth of their words.
  • @DrCoomer_1
Maybe, but I'm still on the "That's not Aerith in the final cutscene* bandwagon
  • @DarkScarlatti
Watching these clips made me realize how important is an accurate translation... This game's localization isn't the greatest
  • @elderjose9662
MY GOD, dude all this doubt if aeris is dead or not IS JUST BECAUSE OF THE TRANSLATION!!! My God!!!! THE TRANSLATION IS THE PROBLEM WITH THIS ENDING, the translators don't translate this very well but in the original japanese IS VERY OBVIOUS THAT AERITH IS DEAD AND CLOUD IS TALKING WITH HER SPIRIT!!!! they create this scene for the doubt and hope that aerith is alive but even after that we can see that she is dead and cloud is just talking with her spirit AND HE KNOWS IT!!! the translation sucks in this game!!!! again the translation of final fantasy specifically ruined the cense of the scene! AERITH IS DEFINALLY DEAD! CLOUD CAN SEE JUST HER SOUL THIS IS VERU OBVIOUS IN THE JAPANESE VERSION!!!
  • @gaspump
何これ.. Subaru is cute as always but man the end of this game is dogshit.
  • Ff7 remakes are nothing hut retcons that spat on the ideas of the original
