A lot of mixups. A lot of confusion and mixing of terms. Rescue boats, lifeboats and pilot boats are not the same.

This is fascinating! Thanks for the great video. The ships compare to some of the US Coast Guard vessels. I follow some TV series about their valiant rescues. Helicopters are involved a good deal of the time and I assume the same occurs frequnetly in the UK and Ireland.

I've had two thoughts about modern enclosed life boats i see on cruise ships;. #1 they are unsinkable. #2 there will be multiple people in them vomiting in rough seas.

Seeing vessels beach themselves is interesting. I follow Alluring Arctic channel and his current sailboat is designed for beaching, which he did in a remote area during low tide. He cleaned some of the underside of the boat and inspected it. Obviously not all boats are designed for that, though.

The Shannon class has the same max speed of 25 knots as earlier classes so it is not faster. They are all pieces of engineering excellence and save many lives every year.
