No matter what people says, Return of the Jedi is the real ending of Star Wars

Thats crazy to think that these “illegal” recordings are now historical footage

I remember seeing this back in August of 1983. The moment Vader grabbed the Emperor, the audience started going nuts. And when he chucked him down the reactor shaft, the cheers were so loud & wild, you almost couldn't hear the music anymore. To this day, 40 years later, I still get emotional during this scene.

I guess no one stayed for the post credit message in 1983 which read “Somehow Palpatine Will Return”
  • My dad checked me outta school early the day Return of The Jedi came out to go see it. I was 10 yrs old. I teared up when Vader died. One of the coolest things my dad ever did. A very special memory. May you rest in peace dad. ❤

Little did they know Palpatine would somehow still be alive EIGHT MOVIES LATER

For any kids who grew up with a father with an addiction, this scene gets more poingnant over time. We all wished our true dads made the same choice as Vader and threw their Emporer into a chasm. Deep down, we knew it wasn't really our dad shooting the pain at us. Anybody who saw or sees this scene this way, has become a better person for it. Thanks, George. A part of me owes to you the happiness of my family.

I remember watching thinking, Luke is going to destroy this man with no light saber. People don’t realize how much of a shock that electricity was. Completely out of nowhere. The true final boss

Fun fact: the reason palpatine didn’t see Vader’s betrayal coming is because it wasn’t an act of selfishness, it was an act of love of his son, and he wanted to save him.

I still love how you can feel the conflict in Vader the whole time and it's all done through a mask.

Ah yes, a sound clip from Scary Movie mixed in to give it that authentic 1983 feel.
  • One of the greatest endings ever, I cannot imagine anyone predicting Vader would be the hero in the end when this first came out. Luke’s compassion truly saved the galaxy 😢
  • I remember being in the theater during that scene. Will never forget it. The guy behind me was yelling, “DO IT, VADER!!” And when he did it, there was applause.

I love how “shocked” and worried people were when Luke was getting electrocuted

Nice to hear Dreamybull's cinema reaction!

I would give anything to go back to 1983 and watch this on opening night. I just want to experience this moment when the theater went absolute apeshit when Vader threw the Emperor down the shaft. One of the greatest moments in cinematic history!

This legit gets me emotional every single time. A father’s protective love for his son defeats decades of complete immersion in the dark side.

By far my favorite film of the trilogy. New Hope made me cheer. Empire made made me afraid. But Jedi made me sob and then dream about my own adventures in a galaxy far, far away... and to this day, approaching old age, I still imagine I was there through it all. Thank you George Lucas ❤

Up until this moment, no one knew that the Force was capable of something this raw and sorcerous -- it had always been an invisible, subtle thing: it moved objects, allowed for precognition, telepathy. Here, it was pure, blunt, brute, Dark Magic.
