Elmer Roush forge welding a 1090 bit on to a tomahawk

Elmer Roush was the demonstrator at the Alex Bealer Blacksmith Association 2023 Christmas party where he forged a traditional trade tomahawk. This video just focuses on the forge welding of the 1090 steel bit for the tomahawk point. For the demonstration, Elmer uses a striker instead of a powerhammer, demonstrating the traditional master and apprentice working together to efficiently forge a work piece. Elmer guides the stiker with a combination of his hammer (the stiker hits where ever Elmern's hammer strikes) and voice commands (to striker harder, normal blows, etc).

    Love how the anvil moves... Also notice to the newbs: no dry-smacking the anvil with the hammer, no wasted movement. Setting it down, or changing the grip, sure, but none of that "keeping the rhythm" BS.
