Live: King's Speech marks state opening of Parliament

Sir Keir Starmer is set to announce the government’s legislative agenda for the years ahead in the King’s Speech this morning.

As part of the State Opening of Parliament, King Charles is expected to outline around 35 draft laws including a national housebuilding programme to build 1.5 million homes, a bill to enact Labour’s pledge to nationalise the railways and a workers’ rights bill.

    From your comments it's fairly clear to me that HM The King is not as much admired by the British as HM Queen Elizabeth II was. I think the whole ceremony is a bit overdone with all the mounted soldiers and the carriage with six horses and everything. I hope HRH The Prince of Wales will slim down the ceremony right after his accession to the throne.
