On February 4th 1974 Heiress of the powerful Hearst family, Patty Hearst, was taken from her college dorm by a group of so-called activists- aka the Symbionese Liberation Army. Not even 13 days into captivity Patty Hearst joined the SLA denouncing her name and allegiance to her ruling family. Together Patty Hearst & the SLA hit a Hibernia Bank in San Francisco. Images quickly surfaced of the Heiress taking up arms during the heist.. bringing on a media frenzy.

The FBI and LAPD closed in on Patty Hearst & her SLA comrades- and it would all come to an end after a hellish shootout in the suburbs of Los Angeles.

What incident should I cover next? >:]
  • Patty Hearst's sentencing is probably one of the best examples of it not being about what you do but who you know.
  • I can't believe Patty Hearst got only 7 years (officially). The benefits of being the family member of someone who's rich and influential...
  • "I'm a prisoner of war" God that's pathetic, she was waiting for something dramatic to happen so she could have a "feeling" of purpose, that's why she converted so quickly

I was in high school when all this stuff started. Afterward, there were two schools of thought by the media. One side touted the Stockholm syndrome. The other was that a bored rich girl found some excitement. I always thought the latter.
  • She literally had multiple chances to give up and run away yet she didn't that right there makes her just as guilty as the rest of them
  • @BiggieTreats
Resume her life as if nothing happened is such a chilling statement of someone getting away without serving their time.

I 100% believe she was in on it from the beginning. What hostage taker would trust thier hostage with a loaded gun after only 13 days? If I was the kidnapper I would assume that was a ploy to try to escape. The only reasoning I can imagine for why they would trust her with a weapon after so little time was because they knew she was on thier side from the beginning. After the main group dying in the fire there was no one who could contradict the "stockholm syndrome" excuse.
  • And people wander why the divide between people exist. Nobody without her family ties would have gotten that treatment.

Her sentence and pardon is a failure of justice. Disgusting
  • @DADDYXXX
just shows you if your family is powerful and rich you can get away with just about anything
  • @JS-ek3ro
She looks quite happy with herself in the security video at the bank. Cracking a smile.
  • I’d put money down that she was not “kidnapped”. That was her plan all along. She told them, I’m rich and special, if you “kidnap” me you can demand whatever you want and they’ll do it.

Would you consider doing a video on the University of TX tower shooting? I find it so interesting (and sad) that the killer himself suspected a physical reason for his splitting headaches and sudden homicidal thoughts, to the point of asking to be autopsied after his death. And sure enough, they found a brain tumor that COULD potentially explain both.
  • 90% of my reason for watching is the music... on point every time.

I can’t believe all of these crazy events I’ve never heard of before. Keep it up with these great documentaries!
  • Best tactical doc's on youtube. The editing is the icing on the cake.
  • Popo is doing such an amazing job on these, so thankful for the free content thanks Popo

Was gonna comment on how the host pronounced “heiress” incorrectly before (possibly hypocritically) pointing out that “symbionese” wasn’t a word. But then he took a shot at the Hearsts by mentioning Citizen Kane, which I am here for entirely. Fuckin, good stuff.
