To make it even sweeter, the pokemon you give him is returned with its affection stat maxed out. He took good care of it.
  • Even though it’s just a video game and that this event is fictional, the message behind this is very much true. Sometimes even the smallest acts of kindness can make someone happy.
  • Even though he passed away, I’m glad that at least we were able to make the old man’s last days his happiest. Hopefully he went peacefully with a smile.
  • I remember finding this sidequest back in the day and getting pretty emotional over it. Just put the game down, soaked in the town's music, and processed what the heck I'd just witnessed

This makes me feel the same as when I met the old lady with her husband's Machamp in Sun and Moon. Hearing that it threw it's own Pokeball over the horizon and refused to ever be in one again, because it was trapped in it and unable to save the man from the car crash that killed him...that was heavy.

Oh my god....I never went back to see this event. 😢 That's really heart warming. Kinda wish the new games had more of this

I’ve forgotten how hard this part hits you. Right in the feels, man… right… in… the… feels. 🥺
  • I remember playing the game and discovered this scene and thought “I’ll give him one of my Pokémon to keep him company” then when I went back to his house and saw the Pokéball, my heart dropped because I knew something had happened but then I read the letter and the tears were flowing. It was a sad moment but one I’m grateful to have in the game as reading the old man’s letter reminded me that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a difference to someone. X and Y aren’t my favorite in the series but I do appreciate what it does and I know that it has its fans
  • I love when games add heartwarming, if a bit sad, moments like this. It really catches you off guard and it's amazing how, as a kid, you wouldn't understand. So it shows that Gamefreak does understand that the vast majority of their audience is getting older and just needs something a little wholesome in their life.

What makes this even sader is the escape rope you can find nearby, implying that without your Pokemon he would have gone much sooner
  • While this is sad and all let’s think about this, this is like a good ending bad ending type of deal, if you don’t give him a Pokémon he won’t ever die, but he’ll be Lonely for eternity, if you do give him a Pokémon, he becomes happy but dies in the process
  • I never cried during any of the Pokémon games. However, the time Stoutland died just reminded me about my family's first dog. Her name was Rapunzel and she was a dachshund/Chihuahua mix. She died, she was around 14. My dad told me and showed me before anything was to be done with her burial. She was a good dog, I had a lot of memories.

I just caught a random Weedle and gave him. I was in a kind of vulnerable state when I played XY, coming from a breakup and I wasn't at all prepared for this. Cried a little, but now that Weedle is a lv 100 Beedrill! I had to keep him at my side after that.

Oh wow I didn’t know Pokémon could get this emotional
  • @jcplays5831
You gave him something to cherish in his final moments- A child might never pick up on that, but someone a bit older would understand it right away and see just how beautiful that is
  • Usually I never did this kind of secondary "quests" in pokemon games, but I remember that the first thing I did right after talking to that man was going all the way back to the early routes, and I captured a fletching just for him, the I went all the way back again to this city and gave it to him. Sad story, like the widow with her husband's Machamp in Sun and Moon

Giving this man a Pokemon is one of my favorite moments dude is lonely he honestly needs a friend by his side!
  • @kelinkh
Wow.. gamefreak definitely knows how to write a heartfelt story..

I love the number of small details in this game. People scoul at me when I say Kalos is one of my favourite regions, but little moments like this really make it special.
