D-A-D (original)

Published 2019-03-05
My dad passed away 11 years ago today - I usually try to do something musical, writing, playing or something every year that I think he would like. I was lucky enough today to play with some friends but before that, after dropping my daughter off at school I had an idea for a tune using the notes, D, A and D for the melody, building chords underneath them. So the title is both referring to my dad as well as the melody. Also my apologies for the audio popping - I’ve never had this issue before. I recorded it without headphones and heard the popping, so I redid it with headphones and didn’t hear any weird pops but on the recording they are still there. I’ll have to diagnose that somehow but if anyone has any ideas or leads I’d appreciate it.

What a fitting tribute to your father. How well I remember him talking about "musical gesture" in melody. You have captured his spirit perfectly. We still miss him, as well, and were are grateful that his Light continues to shine through your music!

Nice and touching idea Paul ! It has some "blue in green" flavors according to my ears.
  • hi paul. such lovely musical sentiment in honor of your dad. i know he hears you. peace, rich
  • Really really great melodies, i'd love to make a track with these
  • you've definitely been on these for a while, cause you got that experienced touch to it. My brothers been playing about 6 years and hes semi decent. I cant play it for the life of me though haha. How long you been at this?
  • Very ethereal, soft and sweet mixed with complicated juxtapositions of, I guess, flats or minors. I can identify with that tune and my dad who liked jazz in the Stan Getz-Dave Brubeck vein and was a sweet and a lot of man. Be well and love and peace Paul!
