CSX Train Having Locomotive Loading Issues Getting Orders By Dispatcher Over The Radio, Includes Radio Audio Corrective Measures. Train Working Hard Up The Hill With 6 Locomotives, Including 2 Canadian Pacific Units On Norfolk Southern Rat Hole Line. 3 Trains With DPU I See You. CSX and Norfolk Southern Railroad Trains In Northern Kentucky.
The first train is coming up the big 5 mile long hill with a 1.18 ruling grade on the Norfolk Southern line in Crescent Springs, Kentucky. There are 5 locomotives on the front and another locomotive near the rear. 2 of the locomotives are Canadian Pacific units that are being moved for their owner and they are not running. Listen to the other locomotives with their awesome sounds as they pull a heavy train up the hill.
The next train is a CSX manifest with a double DPU set. The leading locomotive is running in Notch 8 with the sanders stuck on. Listen to the radio audio as the dispatcher gives orders to the engineer on how to correct the problems. This is awesome railroading at its best! I muted out the code that was given over the radio. This train is running between Cincinnati and Louisville, Kentucky on the Short Line. The train is at a railroad crossing in Walton, Kentucky next to the city park which is a great place to watch trains.
Then we go to Florence, Kentucky to catch a Norfolk Southern train with a DPU at the Totten Road railroad crossing. I got this train on my way home. Traffic was backed up on the interstate near the bridge over the Ohio River so I got this train instead of waiting in traffic.
Don't forget the outro with the slide show from the video and the Live Action Pets.

Filmed Tuesday, June 25, 2024 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

  • The sound of the 5 locomotives is awesome. I keep playing it over with my headphones on. The power and the authority it excudes is just amazing.

That first location rarely disappoints. Interesting radio chatter.
  • No matter how advanced technology gets, we'll always need trains.
  • That was kind of a short train to have a DPU. But it was a good mixed freight! 😃😃❤❤

The best part of watching the trains is the DPUs, the more, the better Brian.

Liked the hard working hill drama. Sounds like the faulty lead engine might've been built by Boeing😊. There's a lot that happens in todays' diesels between the output from the alternator and the taction motors. 3 phase AC comes off of the alternator, is then converted to DC for more precise speed control and then back to AC with either square, sawtooth or sine wave form depending on the loading. Any issue in any of these steps causes problems. Excellent video, liked it a lot. Thanks JT!
  • The mixed freight to open was a fabulous train, JT! 5 locomotives leading plus a mid-train DPU. I think I would have given the DPU some help from the lead power as hard as it was working, but I don't put trains together. It had a great mix of freight, including a car of heavy plate steel. I love that! Great catch! 😃😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤❤
  • Interesting radio communication on the second train. I wouldn't have known about that problem without your radio. I'm surprised the dispatcher had the information on the locomotive. Things have changed since my Dad dispatched trains in the 50's and 60's.

  • Wow! Excellent catching all the trains in Walton, Kentucky, I like them, they're awesome, @JawTooth, Brian, thank you very much and have a nice day.

Those locomotives were working harder than a one armed roofer in a windstorm. Harder than a one legged ditch digger. But not quite as hard as JT.
  • Well JT you made it right to the wreck and then they shut down the traffic on you a few more cars than you would’ve made it past it but anyway another great video my friend and as always you stay safe out there and watch your back and we’ll see you on the next one
  • GM a new video and a cuppa coffee. What a great way to start the day. Thanks JT.
