What do you think of SNL these days?
  • I literally grew up with SNL. It began when I was 5 years old, and there are some beautiful memories attached to that show. The one that comes to mind most often was Eddie Murphy's Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood. There was one sketch where the word of the day was "bitch." Mr. Robinson said to say the Word of the Day to your mother. My older sister and I both laughed and got up to run into our Mom's room. Mom was watching it, too, and she yelled out, "Don't even THINK about it!" We still crack up about that 🤗. 50 years is good for SNL. If they want to stop, that's fine. But if they still have something to say, they should keep going. I can imagine Kenan Thompson running the show for the next 25 years.

Don Ohlmeyer is the person who fired Norm MacDonald from Weekend Update, not Dick Ebersol.

Literally right after you mentioned Tina Fey, a commercial came on with her saying “how many Tina Fey’s can you be?” Am I dreaming?! 😂

I remember the SNL Coneheads movie didn't do do good either.

The strangest episode of SNL I have ever seen was the 1982–1983 season premiere (Chevy Chase/Queen). Reason being, Chevy wasn’t even in the studio; he was on a live satellite feed because apparently he missed his flight.

I'm in that age group that was around when snl began. From '76 to the mid 2000s it was must-watch tv but now i never watch it. The reason is simple - i've aged out of the target audience. BTW - some of my fondest memories of snl were the musical performances.

Already dating when they were simultaneously hired by SNL were Julia Louis Dreyfus and Brad Hall. They married in '87, after each had exited the show.

They also edit laughing in replays. My husband had a unique laugh which was obvious and in the original airing. Found a copy of the episode online a few months back and it was gone

You forgot to mention that Gilda Radner and G.E. Smith were married (1979-1982), Chicago's Second City was also a source for many cast members, and Paul McCartney is a good friend of Lorne Michaels to this day.

I would like to think that Kenan Thompson is replacing Lorne Michaels being the longest cast member on the show.

I hope SNL doesn't stop after the 50th season. Then again, Lorne Michaels has been the only producer of the show during its best seasons, and saved it from being canceled many times, so who knows?
  • @IrishCat04
lol SNL was basically Pete Davidson's raya for a bit

I grew up on snl through the 80s, 90's, and the 00s. It's up and down for sure with quality but what show isn't? I will say this weekend update never disappoints. It is fun to see new cast come and go. I would have to say that some random big celebrity comes and saves the show once a decade it seams. I would have to credit Eddie Murphy as the first to do it, Jim Carrey as the second. God those were funny episodes. Carrey had like 3 sketches that they used for I think a few seasons just from his first appearance. It meant alot more before the internet became so overwhelming. Hell we used to invite people over for watch parties. Light up a doober and Crack a cold one. Especially when there was a good host or musical appearance. Those were the days. This generation misses out on planned events like that. Now everything is on dvr and u can't make fun of someone for missing a great episode. Man I miss the 90s. Good weed, cold brew, hot women all with great friends. Fuckin A!

Apparently to some sources, the idea that John Lennon and Paul McCartney once considered taking Lorne Michaels up on his offer is a myth. McCartney had been a guest at Lennon's Dakota apartment, but the timeline doesn't quite add up. It's probably more likely that they considered his offer only after the airing of the show.

Catherine O’Hara also hosted in 1990.

Ya forgot Elvis Costello’s ban 🤙🏼
