big thanks to:
FortyTwo for the original randomizer plugin
Naleksuh for editing randomizer to not be random
Zeko for the helper website
Kat for data
Viewers for playing and enduring the torture :)

old title:
"what if any class could use any weapon? what loadout would be the best?"

FAQ:
Q: How did you make that? What editing software do you use?
A: I use Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro & After Effects. Photoshop for image editing and thumbnails. Premiere Pro for compositing and After Effects for motion graphics (the fancy animations).

@@@@@ hey the experiment was run from sept 1st to 4th, but it's over, i'm not hosting it anymore, i'm not going to host it again, there are no servers currently running it, and i don't know if anyone else will run a server with this plugin. the developer has released the plugin for download here: naleksuh.com/notso-randomizer.sp

I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING MORE TERRIFYING THAN A HEAVY USING THE MINIGUN-CHARGIN' TARGE COMBO
  • @etac774
The idea of a spy making his way to the back line and shredding the enemy team with a mini gun when they least expect it is horrifying.
  • @NafedalbiFilms
He explains the severe limitations of heavyknight while playing clips of said heavyknight being the scariest thing I've ever seen
  • @SolarLight
extremely fat demoknight was very fun, nice experiment

6:10 - 6:13 That Heavy is the single most horrifying thing that I've seen in a TF2 match. I'd shit my pants seeing a Heavy run after me with such speeds.
  • @raikaria3090
Low key busted: Heavy with Quick-Fix. Suddenly you have a 300HP Medic running around, since Quick-Fix matches your speed to the patients if you're slower, at Scout speed. Or blast-jumping alongside Demos and Soilders. And since Quick-Fix is a secondary he can still pull out a Minigun. Just imagine a Heavy launching himself through the air with a Quick-Fix alongside a Soilder; swapping to the Tomislav mid-air and bombing you.

So basically, once you took class restrictions for weapons away, the game's meta equalized to Quake? That seems fitting.
  • @Everik-ct6pg
The heavy with a charging targe was one of the funniest things I've seen in tf2
  • @snaek2594
8:18 I'm sorry, but the stickyjumper heavy coming out of nowhere to own the shit out of the sniper heavy absolutely sent me
  • @OlaftheGreat
This quickly went from "This will be a fun way to experiment with different, funny ways to play the game!" to SCOUT HELL
  • @Yahiamice
the mental image of a 300 pound russian man armed with a big freakin minigun just POWERWALKING towards you at such high speeds that he's followed by an after-image is mind-blowing
  • @alec5982
From experience, a scout with a phlog is pretty terrifying.

I ran a tournament to find the "best" loadout years ago. The format was a bit different, it was a 1v1 MGE tournament, but just like this players could choose any base class and any loadout, with the restriction that only engineers could build and only spies could disguise and cloak. This was way back in 2014, so balance was very different. In particular this was during the days of charge turn scripting. The winning loadout, and it was clear without question that this was the best loadout for the challenge, was Heavy with Minigun, Charge'n'Targe, and Claymore. The Charge'n'Targe with turn scripting gave ridiculous mobility, so that no class could escape fighting a point blank heavy. It also gave beefy resistances to fire and explosives. The minigun obviously deals massive damage. The Claymore was there to extend the charge duration, making it even harder escape from the Heavy. I recorded some footage from the challenge, which you can see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_QlKgijyB8

Y'see? The main reason why Valve had to gatekeep weapons to classes was to protect servers of the sheer nightmare that is Phlog Scouts.
  • The fact that Scout utterly dominates the meta to the point of redefining it several times in so many ways just goes to show how powerful having extra mobility can be in TF2 when paired with access to every weapon in the game.
  • @watersomic
6:00 might not've been the final meta to performing best at the game, but it's definitely the final meta of killing people irl via heart attacks
  • @HeisBeppo
I'm shocked there aren't more trickstabbing Scouts, someone who can zip around and double jump also getting to insta kill from behind sounds scary.
