State Opening marks the formal start of Parliament’s working year and The King’s Speech sets out the government’s agenda for the coming session, outlining proposed policies and legislation. It is the only regular occasion when the three parts of Parliament – the Sovereign, the House of Lords and the House of Commons – meet.

Why is the House of Lords streaming in 480p in this day and age? Maybe a decade or so ago that would be acceptable, but today? Should be at least 720 if not 1080!

House of Lords looks like a Santa Claus convention

Skip to 5:21 to see the King walk in, 6:11 to hear some numpty forgetting to turn their cellphone off, and 6:21 to hear him tell them to sit down, 7:15 to watch them make a big deal about closing a door then opening it again. A sort of Blackadder cosplayer appears at 7:34. At 8:00 this dude remembers where he put his gold bludgeoner, picks it up, and goes off for a walk, everyone follows him probably because they think it's going to be quite a sight to watch this guy go and bludgeon someone with it. At 9:30 the sign language lady takes her union approved 1 minute smoke break, reappearing at 10:30. At 11:24 the King demands the beheading of the lot of them... Just kidding, that's when he actually starts the speech, but by then everyone had fallen asleep.
