In this exclusive AARP interview, iconic musician Jon Bon Jovi reflects on the “immortality” of writing music and the fight to save his voice.

Bon Jovi opens up about undergoing thyroplasty surgery in 2022 to restore his vocal cords. After more than four decades of performing, his vocal cords were thinning, weakening his voice. Bon Jovi is still recovering, but he says his goal is to tour with his band again, singing “two and a half hours a night, four nights a week.”

Bon Jovi talks about looking back on his career thanks to a new four-part Hulu documentary about his band, “Thank You, Goodnight.” It chronicles Bon Jovi’s journey since its founding in 1983 with original members Richie Sambora, David Bryan, Tico Torres, Phil X and Alec John Such. The band rose to global stardom in 1986 with its third album, “Slippery When Wet,” which included songs such as “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “Livin’ on a Prayer.” Since then, the band has sold 140 million records and given the world hits like “Bad Medicine,” “I’ll Be There for You” and “It’s My Life.”

Bon Jovi details what’s special about the band’s 16th studio album, “Forever,” being released in June 2024. He says the album benefits from the depth of his “life experience” at 62 years old. At this point in his career, Bon Jovi says that it’s not numbers and accolades that drive him — it’s his love for his family and bandmates who trusted him “to take ’em on this ride.”

Bon Jovi is featured on the cover of the June/July 2024 issue of “AARP The Magazine.”

Last time I saw him in concert was 2018 and by the middle his voice was done. I loved him since 1988 and lived 30 min from his mansion in NJ , but he also smoked for years! That had to do damage that he’s dealing with now!

He is and always will be my favorite rock star 🤩❤
  • Oh, Jon where did the time go? 80s big hair doused in Aqua Net, spandex pants, with the latest Bon Jovi cassette blasting in my two tone Pontiac Grand Am. Driving down 520 to get to Jack's Music and Records in Red Bank for the newest JBJ album on the day of release or for concert tickets at Count Basie. And now here we all are 40 years later members of the AARP. 🤣🤣✋✋ Still my favorite band! So glad your voice is doing better. Can't wait for rhe next concert when you're ready. Love your music, but love your heart even more. 💘💘

Everyday is a new beginning. Looking forward to Jon, Richie, and the gang going back on tour. Richie mentioned he is up for it when Jon is ready with his voice. Not about money for them they just want to bring joy to the world with music.
