Legit impressive to bulk 70lbs while weight training and gain nothing. I'm actually impressed!

"Being liked is probably a lot more important than being competent in most jobs" damn if that ain't the truth.
  • @SleepyIronBear
The fact that your goal is clearly to raise awareness and promote critical thinking is a blessing. Hopefully ppl appreciate. Thank you Faz

The more of this crap I see, the more I understand Lyle McDonald's frustration. He's witnessed 35 years of it.

I'm helping a co-worker with starting his journey in lifting weights. He's been lifting for a while, but with no direction or idea on what to do. We were talking yesterday and he said something to the effect of "I don't do that because it's hard." I was speechless, although I shouldn't have been. He also avoided leg training. He's waiting for me to divulge some secret method that requires minimal effort..... Gonna be a long road

No matter the training style, progressive overload is king. I’ve recently went back to a rest pause based training style because it’s efficient and I enjoy it. But the focus is still progression, even after 20 years of doing this. As Faz says, our only loyalty should be to our results.

"Optimal" bros are becoming an actual hindrance at my gym. Every single day, virtually all the time when I'm there, there's at least one young guy who's hauled an adjustable bench over to the cable stack doing those facing the bench incline single arm pulldown things. Me being a nosy bastard can say that I've never seen them do a bodyweight pullup let alone weighted, they never go ham on the plate loaded high row, they never do barbel rows or deadlifts, not ever dumbell rows. My lats blew up during covid when all I could do to "target" them were heavy ass pullup, and they're still pretty nuts relative to the rest of my back. I think it's a desire to do work, but not hard work, and have an "expert " validating their decision in their back pocket. Because single arm lat pulldowns aren't hard, I don't care what anyone thinks. They feel lovely, but don't do shit. The same logic applies to a whole myriad of lifts. If it's filtered down so that me in Ireland in a small town gym notices it means that it must be endemic!

I don't think Dr Mike ever advised putting on 70lbs of pure lard! This must have been purely this guys own idea. Sounds like a simpleton to me
  • @barbellbryce
So many people including myself need to hear this. Thanks for dropping wisdom and knowledge once again, Faz! 😊

fazlifts, we love your personality, too. That's why I believe in your content.
  • @PowerMaze
This was a good topic to cover. I think it can apply many different ways outside of lifting.
