William died in the spring bonnie suit trying to hide from the souls of the children he killed, which leaded into the creation of Springtrap Thats the lore of the 2 Animatronics Golden Freddy And Springtrap.

Context: Golden Freddy is protecting the girl from Springbonnie because that’s the kid that followed William Afton that found the girl and wanted to protect her

Oh I get it the golden Freddy is Ethan the crying child so his soul went in golden Freddy and he saw her so he protects her and if anyone says that’s not the crying child then guess what the first soul of golden Freddy is Cassidy and the second one is Ethan cause golden Freddy is the only animatronic with 2 souls
