This is part seven of a seven part series on how basic automatic transmissions operate. In this video I explain the electronics found in a modern transmission system. I explain various inputs like speed sensors, temp sensors, pressure sensors and switches, and MAF sensors. I also explain and demonstrate the operation of output solenoids, such as the simple on/off solenoid and the PWM solenoid. This video is intended to teach a student or a technician that's new to automatic transmissions the basics of automatic transmission electronic operation.

Best teacher ever. My guess is not many people bother trying to understand what you are teaching. Priceless knowledge. Forgive my English
  • this auto transmission play list was amazing, I am taking the ase test tomorrow and couldn't find that much modern study material. this helped sooo much though, thank you.

This is the exact video I needed .. thank you so much .. I am doing an EV conversion and have an auto gearbox .. i pretty much spent months learning about everything not knowing about your videos. As a software engineer with some electronics background I was able to fumble my way through to which I think is the right knowledge on the overall function of the electronics components on the auto gearbox, mind you, this was after watching lots of other countless videos .. now using your video I am verifying what I think i know and so far its checking out more or less .. my goal would be to redevelop the PCM using an arduino or raspberry pi to do certain new things and this is allowing me to verify what knowledge I think I have in terms of the sensors and what the computer should do to the valve body .. again thank you and wish I had found this video much much sooner .. subbed !

I think this will at least give me direction on how to fix my Hyundai. 123 and 4th gear will not engage part of the time. Sometimes when it goes into safety mode (4th gear) the odometer will move but the wheels will not. I'm suspecting solenoid number 5 could be the culprit. Here's my hangup though. When I unplug the transmission, it should engage 4th gear. It doesn't.
