The final version of EdgeTX 2.8.0 has recently been released. In this video I'll show you how to upgrade EdgeTX 2.x.x to 2.8.0.

You can use other tools like buddy.edgetx.org/ or the EdgeTX Flasher. I'm old school though, I like to perform each step myself so I know exactly what's going on. If you want to learn how to download the software you need and upgrade your radio from start to finish, watch this video.

If you're updating to 2.9 make sure you delete the sounds folder as he does in the video before copying over the new one. Otherwise you'll have a full sd card most likely. Thanks for the great video! Helped me get it done quickly so I can get back to flying.

  • @SteveGoral
This was absolutely perfect, I have just used it to update to the latest version. Thanks a million.
  • @Ingles1266

Unbelievably competent guide to getting the latest software on your tx16. This has to be THE ddefinitive guide to recovering a bricked radio. The only possible improvement would be to show your mouse movements on screen a bit more slowly for those of us who are by this time in unfamiliar terrirory. But hey, this is why we have pause and repeated playback available eh? Well done and thanks a million. You have a new subscriber - RESPECT !

You are the absolute best resource for learning about this stuff. I had 3 years of hell, courtesy of OpenTX, and the lack of good tutorials. I successfully updated my TX16S from 2.7 to 2.8 using your video. I am so grateful there is someone smart enough to teach this. Many, many thanks!!
  • That was awesome! I got lost a few times but I was able pickup the trail again, And BINGO!😅 it was a success! thank you very much!
  • @syros218
Today I uploaded 2.8.0 PL. Without problems. The radio works very well. Thank you for videos showing how to perform migrations.
  • @MRBSOK1
Awesome tutorial!! I would not have been able to update without it. Thanks for taking time to do this. It means a lot!!
  • @OraTab
As always, very helpful content. Thank you very much for taking the time and effort of creating these videos, so the rest of us don't struggle as much with EdgeTX 🙂

just few seconds before updated my new TX16S to v2.8.3 by your instructions! Thank you!

You are a Zen master my friend. You must do this for a living because that was the tightest how-to video I've ever watched. Thank you so much.
  • @rcfreakamit
Just used this to upgrade RM TX16S (with internal ELRS module) from EdgeTX 2.7.1 (the version it came with) to 2.8.5, the video was very very helpful. Thanks!
  • Thanks mate for this. All my EdgeTX models had disappeared. Had backed them up though. I had downloaded the latest Companion but not updated firmware on the radio. Did all of the housekeeping suggested in your video. Models are back and parked in their proper hangars. Cheers from Oz.
  • @88tcroberts
just moved over to 2.8.5. - This was an exceptional tutorial (as ever!!!!) clear and concise- and worked as described. will be heading over to 2.9 soon enough but super happy as this fixed all of my current issues (including your superb tip about my mpm) time to go fly :)

This is an excellent guide, and I followed step by step. Unless it's me, and I missed something. It didn't include how to update the bootloader itself to 2.8. Besides that, it's great. For anyone wondering To flash the bootloader Hit SYS, select your firmware folder, select the same firmware you flashed in the Bootloader mode, and Flash Bootloader. Thanks for making the videos!
  • Hi John, I'm really late to the RadioMaster party and purchased a TX16S MkII 4in1 a couple months ago from Grayson Hobby GA. I was able to pick it up in person and when they were giving me the run down. They mentioned you and your RC Video Reviews being the best most comprehensive info out there! Well, IMO they were right because you walked me through Companion and upgrading EdgeTX to Flying Dutchman with not one error. I setup my 1st airplane using your video configuring the S6R w/ 3-axis stabilization. It took a little bit to get to the right menu places in the EdgeTX vs the OpenTX videos, but it worked out find. I'm finding my way around much easier now and have been tweaking the radio with some of your snippets so, I feel better having my 1st successful Airplane flight a couple weeks later. All that being said; I can not find the video where you mentioned A Volume boost "loader" by dropping another sound file into the SD folder. I thought it was mentioned during the Companion install or the EdgeTX update, but I went back to review and can not find it.... Appreciate the help and enjoy your coffee! Regards - Keith aka Simages
  • @Rcschim
Thanks for the good guide. I'm familiar with PCs and RC stuff - but still it's helpful to have someone talk you thru the process! greets, Mario

John, thank you so much, I just updated to 2.9 using this guide and just substituted the version numbers. I can say it worked flawlessly.
  • I agree with so many others. Best way to learn Radiomaster on YT is right here. Without question. Great job.
