Most of us take notes in some way or another - on a piece of paper, in a notebook, or with some app. But are your notes always readily available when you need them? And more importantly, can you easily find a specific note you're looking for?

I tried a lot of note-taking systems in the past and I can't tell you how many great ideas were lost over the years because I just couldn't find the piece of paper anymore, I scribbled some notes on. It wasn't until I found a way to use Microsoft OneNote effectively that it changed for the better. Many people don't know that OneNote is much more than just a digital notebook.

In this OneNote tutorial, I explore how you can take full advantage of OneNote, and share my 5 personal OneNote tips and tricks on how you can become more organized.

00:00 Why Use OneNote
01:46 Use Hierarchies to Get Organized

"Your mind is for having ideas, not holding them" Thanks for sharing this wonderful message. Always followed your videos, helped me greatly. Cheers :)

This was THE BEST OneNote tutorial I have seen. It is incredibly helpful, and super easy to understand. You are a great teacher 💕 Thank You so so much!
  • @time4sanity
Long time One Note user, but obviously I've not put it to greatest use. I have about a dozen notebooks, and over 1000 pages, so I've been a fairly "prolific" user. Your overview is EXCELLENT! Can't wait to put more of the functions to good use! Thank you!
  • Leila has to be one of the best if not THE BEST presenters or "tutors" on YouTube. Not only are her tutorials extremely well organized.....her delivery is PERFECT! Leila...I can't help but wonder if you have a corporate consulting business and do this.....or that....on the side????
  • @NoelSlevin
This is the best rundown of OneNote I think I’ve seen. Really clear, really practical, and the pace is spot on.

I"ve never really given OneNote any thought until I purchased a Surface Go last year. It has now become my go-to note-taking app. One important feature I love is the ability to record audio while taking notes (i.e. during meetings) and then jumping to specific segments of the recording based on what I typed or written when I review these notes. Anyhow, great tutorial and great channel. Already subscribed.

Omgosh Leila! This was timely and on point, just what i needed to get my head wrapped around how to effectively use OneNote across multi platforms to be more organized for school, work and life! You did an AMAZING job explaining everything!
  • Wow, this is great thanks, Leila. I haven't used One Note before because it looked confusing, But after watching your video it looks fantastic. Thanks for such a clear and easy way of explaining how to use it and what it is used for. I'll definitely give it a go as I have lots of projects on the go.

Leila: You and your team, have an amazing ability to provoke ideas as well as those nuances of ideas. May I say thank you for redirecting me to ‘One Note’. A very pleasurable experience.
  • Hey Leila, I would like to appreciate the way you teaching, i would like to recommend make the video on Automation series
  • @JasonMilner
Thanks for the tips. I've used OneNote for years & wouldn't be without it now. One thing I would say is don't build too complex a hierarchical structure. I found I had several notes that could easily exist in more than one of my hierarchies & it was frustrating trying to decide where to file them. In the end I started creating a new notebook per year (just to keep the number of notes per book manageable), and use the excellent search feature to find what I want.

You and your team are amazing! You explain in a simple way, contents of the videos are nicely organised and there’s a lot of effort you guys put in in each video. You are doing a great job! Thanks…
  • @aschadwell
This is the best "quick" video that packs the most useful information! I've had a love/hate thing going on with OneNote for years and this eliminated the "hate" portion! Thank you!
  • One GTD thought is within Tags. I can see where creating an "Agendas" tags for either a person (manager) or a group (team meeting) would work really well. As you go through the week, in preparation for a meeting (with a person or a group), you create tags for applicable notes. Then, when you have your meeting, you just click on tags and everything comes together. This concept could also work for Waiting-For's for a person. You have information in OneNote that you're tracking, and the tag will find everything for the person you're waiting on.
  • @IvanferreroIt
Using tags to group notes from different notebooks is a good tip. Thank you!

Thank you so much for your tips and advice in this OneNote video. I have been using OneNote for about 6 years and, like many people, over time I was comfortable with the way my note system worked, so I just kept using it. After watching your presentation, I learned some tips for OneNote that I had never considered, and I'm looking forward to incorporating these new skills into my record-keeping both historically and going forward. You have a wonderful teaching style that is very clear with details and easy to understand. I believe "we are never too old to learn" so I will now follow you to keep an open mind on my skills. Thanks again for the tips. Stay safe as we end 2020 - wishing all who see this a Healthy, Happy New Year 2021.
