Why We Love 2000s Video Games

Kingdom hearts, spider man, jak and daxter, and dynasty warriors 3 are all classics

I think the reason 2000s games are so good is because 3D was rather new, so developers were truly free to experiment with a new way to make games. These days there’s a kit for everything and most AAA games uniformly follow tired fads; they’re all basically the same game.

I like the looks of late 90's/early 2000's games the most. In particular I like their attempts at realistic places like cities and the things within them. They look real enough but they're obviously not. Love the blocky look of it. Games like Deus Ex, Kingpin, Urban Chaos (Not the SWAT one), Vampire Masquerade: Bloodlines, GTA 3, Driver, The Warriors, Mafia, The Getaway, even the early Sims games and so on, all set in recognisable places but they are still just a crude imitation. Of course, I do like the fantastical look other games had as well. But yeah, I tend to think that era of gaming was the better, I still play games from that time more than any other.

To be honest I don't agree that, today game industry lost soul and nowadays games are just boring... Well on first sign it may look's like that, but only when we focus only on triple A games, then yes: there is a lot of micro transactions, newer games are similar to previous titles, there is a lack of newer IP's or there is no more space to experiment. However game industry is not only triple A segment, there is also more space for indie games and AA titles. If you want some new fresh games then don't buy next Assassin's Creed game, search for small game where few developers with passions create their title. And even if AAA games have their problems, there is also some pros, predictable may also be positive, like when You buy another Rockstar game you know that will be great game, with great story and huge living world, when you buy Naught Dog title, then you are aware that this game will have great story and stunning graphics. Currently we as a gamers should learn how to find games that suit for us and not rely only on advertising campaigns.
