  • I am a 76 year old female. Been on lowest dose of Levothyroxine since 2008—16 years. I recently learned that Levo can cause bone loss, anxiety and insomnia! All of which I have! One Doctor on YouTube says Levo contains lactose and I am lactose intolerant. My primary doctor never told me about any of these side effects and she knows I have bone loss and anxiety and insomnia! I am really upset with my doctor over this! I thought my worsening anxiety and insomnia were due to "getting older" !! I am active-I walk an hour a day and I am not overweight and eat healthy. I do not eat dairy- I am a vegan. I read Armour thyroid is made from pig’s glands so I don’t want that! I see my doctor for my annual physical and blood draw in September. I stopped taking the Levo 3 days ago and started taking kelp [ for iodine] and selenium. And iron and zinc . I already take B12 and vit d3. I read comments on YouTube from people on Levo for 20 years and they got off and feel much better and sleep better. One person on YouTube reports that he takes Levo every 3-4 days while adding in the things mentioned above. I may do that after a few more days. I read Levo has a half-life is 9 days. When I see my doctor in a month I will ask for referral To an endocrinologist so I can get my t3 & t4 measured.

Wow, this video could not have come at a better time for me personally. Was just recently diagnosed, and this Saturday will be 4 weeks @ 25 mcg. Saw the Dr last Friday, and he said it was too soon to increase the dose, and explained why. I suppose I'm just impatient, and didn't realize the time it takes to cautiously titrate the dosage. Thanks for more insight!
