I'm Bored with Photography!

Published 2023-07-29
Six weeks. Six long weeks since my last time out with my cameras. Yes, it's summer and many landscape photographers find the days too long and hot to go out and shoot. But for me, going out to shoot was turning into a drag. I finally decided to force myself out of the house and into the woods. Will the effort be worth it?

Its is good for us that you are back. Summer can be tough for many reasons, the heat, family obligations, chores at home etc... I use guide books to map locations within a hundred mile or so radious and use that to plan adventures. Light houses, covered bridges, waterfalls, and rocky coastlines to name a few are the makings for a road trip, and new locations always inspires me.

Nice to see you back! Lately I’ve been shooting lightning, sunsets after storms, beach scenes and night sky. These are the areas I tend to focus on during the summer. Maybe some inspiration for you!

Some would say I’m bored too, but it is so friggin hot and humid here is SC right now and the subjects are far and few as well. I’d rather just stay in and work on my editing skills and also go back and redo some older images. Enjoyed the video!

It's tough in our area during the summer. I feel the same way...especially after traveling to Europe. Great to see you out and about! Happy shooting.

Hi John, lovely images and video. I believe that every photographer goes somehow through a period where it's difficult to find the energy to go out there with the camera. Especially, when you are vlogging it must be hard to constantly dragging a vlogging camera with you and film yourself. If I were you I would just go out there without the vlogging camera and just enjoy the outdoor time instead of vlogging. I can only imagine the stress you are under to get a video out. Just enjoy life as it comes! Take care and greetings, Gladys

Good Shots John. Motivation is difficult for us all sometimes. Glad to see you out and motivated.

You could take a walk in the forest and leave your camera at home. Just enjoy nature and get inspired again. Wishing you all the best and thanks for sharing this video.

The Heatwave across the nation seriously doesn't help! But glad you were able to find some motivation to get out. Nice Video

Good to see you again, it's been a minute... I'd rather see you post when you are inspired versus at the demand of the algorithm. As always, keep up the good work! :trophy-yellow-smiling:

I am glad you got back out. I have been wondering when you were going to post another video. I too have gone through spells were it is a challenge to get out. I shoot mostly wildlife and this time of the year in the Pacific Northwest can be a real challenge. When the sun comes up at about 4am the light gets high and harsh pretty early. The only good thing is that many babies are coming out for the first time.
  • Ive been keeping obe eye on that notification bell John. Glad to see you back. The backlit series of trees were lovely. You've got to take the rough with the smooth. Rome should get you fired up.
  • John, excellent photos and video. I've been fighting with not only motion issues but also not having enough time of late. Thank you for sharing. Peace and Safe Travels.

I’m so happy you’ll be going to Italy! Surely lots of inspiration there ❤️
  • @fototripper
I think what might help John is if you visit some truly epic locations. When faced with awesome scenery the shots just make themselves and you become merely a conduit. That always gets me fired up and sometimes results in portfolio pieces. How far would you have to drive to arrive at a world class location?

Glad to see you again! Like your pictures.
