ABOUT A TO ZEN LIFE
Along my journey to let go of 30 years of clutter, I accidentally became a minimalist, and it was life-changing.

Before, I was an emotional hoarder with nothing but the clutter from lost loved ones — and $25,000 of debt — to my name. Now I have a beautiful home in Europe, a happy family, live debt-free, and — best of all — wake up to a life that I’m EXCITED to live every day.

My mission is to help you conquer your clutter and simplify YOUR way to a happier and better life. HERE'S OUR STORY: atozenlife.com/about-a-to-zen-life/

  • What I stopped doing or buying: 1. hairspray 2. make-up 3. perfume 4. air travel 5. new clothes (I sew, knit and upcycle or buy second hand) 6. jewellery 7. magazines 8. new books (I buy them second hand or borrow them from the library) 9. gift wrapping paper and single use ribbons (I've sewn gift bags and use fabric ribbons and reuse both) 10. fabric softener, dryer sheets, laundry perfume etc. (laundry detergent is enough!)
  • I've accepted my age instead of trying to ignore it. I'm in my 70s and retired and up until a few years ago I was doing all my yardwork and gardening "to save money". I was having some health problems at the time and became very heat intolerent. I gave myself permission to hire help with some of the heavier tasks and only do what I can now without wearing myself out. Things are so much more enjoyable now. 😊

I gave up watching the news. It stressed me out so much, I am way more relaxed now.
  • I got rid of 75% of my stuff. ❤. I will never give up coffee 😂😂😂😂😂😂
  • @wyogurly
I stopped all social media and news. Let me tell you how happy I am!!!

I love your eyebrows, hair, and decor! You can't please everyone so why not yourself!!
  • I stopped buying ultra processed foods for the most part. By eating healthier options, my glucose levels are much better and I have lost some weight. Minimalism in food choices has helped me.
  • @monagould1829
I quit drinking alcohol and focused more on the important things in life such as nature, family, and friends

I am the polar opposite of a minimalist when it comes to stuff, and have been working on decluttering, which is how I found your channel. I stopped going to auctions and gathering more stuff, and instead have begun to either use it or sell it.

Oh you are lovely and don’t need to go back to dying your hair! I embraced my silver strands and love it. Instead of feeling “old” I think I look/feel better like a gracefully aged fine wine. I hope you will too!

I guess I don't understand how piles of cheap garbage would lead to spikes of pleasure. And knowing what we are doing to the environment by living this way should make us feel guilty, not content! I'm a minimalist, but my house is done in greens, blues, pinks and white. It's a very happy house, with space to move in and think in. Love your channel. And the rude comments are just beyond bizarre, not to mention shallow. Good for you for ignoring them. What's funny is they assume their opinions should somehow matter to you.

My parents have never told me how to save money or invest. But they taught me how not to spend money on something that I can not afford. That helped me not to owe any money to anyone whole my life. But I wish I knew how to save money efficiently.. I am in my mid 50th, saved up around 450k but I could have done much better if I knew all the tricks.. My way of saving money has been most inefficient way and painfully slow.. Work hardest and just keep money in the bank account style...😂

I dont hold on to anything that reminds me of bad times. Photos, clothes from a previous career and even a computer monitor I held on to for 2 years after I quit my corporate career due to burnout! The release I feel when no longer having those past reminders is like a new lease on life. Also removing anything that sparks the silent to do list (books I won't read dishes that need to be cleaned etc). It's all way too noisy 😂

Ahh I was pretty minimalist a few years ago and then during Covid something happened where I started buying things to “fix” my mental health. I started decluttering today and have lots of regrets, but the past is the past, and I can’t wait to Live a more intentional life again. Love your videos!
  • "Minimalism is an illness" gave me a wonderful laugh to start my day, so I guess Thank You to the meanie who posted that? 🤣
  • No fair!! Right as you mention Dopamine Decor the Hobby Lobby ad interrupted your video. I love Hobby Lobby but you are right about the temptations to overspend and load our homes with clutter.
  • @anitas5817
YMMV but there are lots of studies showing health benefits of moderate coffee consumption, and morning coffee time with my husband every day is one of the chief joys of my life. We start each day in our cozy kitchen sitting area, chatting and sharing our thoughts. It’s such a wonderful way to start the day.

I'm a minimalist who uses bright colors! I get irritated that people think the only option is gray (🤢) or neutral for calm and clean. You can have color and still have clear surfaces. You just have to know yourself and what you like😊
