Director: "The Emperor wants a Tank. Design one. Deadline is friday." Starts the work thursday night
-
I love the Tie crawler and the Tie mauler they are just so great for the implication that a Sienar Fleet Systems designer was just sitting looking at a pile of unused TIE fighter cockpits and then looks over and sees some tank treads and a fucking light bulb goes off in his head
-
Are we going to ignore the fact that this thing has a giantic glass ball as front armor?
-
I'm guessing it lacks a hyperdrive as well...
-
Empire: “ I know let’s take a cheap fighter with no shielding, no armor or heavy weaponry and then make it into a tank almost negating the only two good qualities of the original craft: speed and manoeuvrability. What could possibly go wrong?”
-
"Another advantage is that somebody trained in TIEs could operate this tank" So wait, the Empire was throwing TIE pilots into this? People trained in an environment where speed and mobility is life, where they have 3 dimensions to work with, and who have no training in infantry combat, urban warfare tactics, or tank tactics? Yeesh, bad enough to have a crap design, you're letting people who have no idea how to properly use an ideal version of this vehicle take control.

If you ever wonder why TIE fighters variants are so crazy there's a simple explanation, that also explains where the rest of Kessel went to leave it looking like a potato. Raith Sienar's massive Spice addiction.
-
The empire was like: "Why don't we get a Tie Fighter, and make it into a tAnk!"
-
I thought the Imperial remnants cobbled together Century tanks because their manufacturing infrastructure was decimated by the post-Empire Battle of Coruscant. The Imperials didn't like it, but had to use it.
-
Main feature: shooting into the ground when the target is behind even the slightest of slopes...
-
Ah finally, I'm now a certified pilot & am ready to take on those rebel scum in a Tie Fighter! Actually you'll be deployed in a Tie Tank for the next battle. ...the Tie what?
-
Oh that thing. Haven't seen that in ages
-
And lets not forget in Empire at War the special ability of this particular TIE branch is to SELF DESTRUCT!
-
I think one could easily scare their opponent with the weirdness of that thing.
-
Seinar Fleet Systems: hits blunt “how about a TIE Fighter, but it’s a tank?”
-
The TIE Crawler looks like something a 13-year-old fan fiction writer would've designed when they were bored, tired, and uninspired.
-
Moff Patrick: why don't we take a TIE fighter...aNd PuSh It SoMeWhErE eLsE?!
-
It's like the Empire's quality control department was out to lunch more often than not when they realised Palpatine just signed off on everything with "I love it, it's great." I mean, would YOU question the emperor's will?

I had the lego version. As a kid I just thought that it could fly, maybe slow and kinda slugish in dogfight but great as support for paratroopers / jet troopers. A ship that could take off from a SD in orbit, protect the gunships/small troop transports and then support the infantry as a light tank that could provide air cover by taking off and becoming again a starfighter
