The thing to remember with Arnold is that he was a rarity. Incredible physical genetics combined with an ultra sharp mind and an engaging charisma.

1:53 truly incredible. At 29 he was saying the same exact things he would say 40+ years later when asked about the secrets to be successful. Usually with older age people become wiser, look back and, in hindsight, finally understand the whole game of life a bit better. Arnold instead already had everything crystal clear in front of him since the age of 15 or so. And he was just a regular boy from an Austrian small town, with no Internet or anything like that. Insane.
  • The most accomplished alpha male that perhaps ever lived. Served in the military, became an icon for the hardest sport to compete in, married a Kennedy, became a governor for a state in a country he wasn’t even born in, is the greatest action movie star of all time, is the Terminator, is Conan, speaks multiple languages, inspired MILLIONS to get into bodybuilding and/or fitness and also earned many millions of dollars in doing so. Nobody has a lifetime resume more impressive than Arnold. Nobody!

I've said it before and I'll say it again....you gotta respect someone like Arnold Schwarzenegger. From a very young age he found what he loved and got that focus, dedication & tunnel vision - that never give up attitude. Most of us just aren't like that with our lives; we just work a 9 to 5. I am envious (in a good way) I wish I had found something and really dedicated myself to it like that when I was young. Sad thing is....when I was 16 I had his book "The Education of a Bodybuilder" and I worked out back then as well...but I didn't stick with it.

Never tire of looking at Arnold's physique even though modern bodybuilders are more muscular. Definitely the man who put bodybuilding on the map and in that respect he's still the greatest

A different interviewer asked Arnold the same question this one did about whether bodybuilders are narcissistic for looking at themselves in a mirror when they work out. He gave a slightly different answer here, but the previous one was the best response I’ve ever heard to that question. He noted that in other sports athletes always measure themselves, like in baseball what your batting average is or how many home runs you hit, or in football how many touchdowns a quarterback throws, and so on in all sports. And he noted that no one thinks of that as being narcissistic. He said a bodybuilder is doing the same thing other athletes do when measuring accomplishment, but their body itself is what is being measured against a certain ideal, whereas in other sports the body is just the vehicle to their measured athletic accomplishment.

I'm getting the pump just by watching this..Thanks for this bookworm!
  • It gets the people GOING. I love these down to earth interviews with Arnold. It goes to show you how he really was day to day. Just a chill guy that was outspoken and intelligent. Hardworking.
  • @BigBoss-zi5ss
" And my ego was satisfied " ..this is what is missing today. Honesty. Arnold always seemed to say it straight with out a fake persona

Whether you agree or not that he is the greatest Mr. Olympia of all time there's no doubt in my mind that he's the greatest ambassador for the sport. He put bodybuilding on the map and never walked away from it.

Arnold is awesome. I am 17 and he is one of my idols.
  • This is a great interview, and really shows the intelligence that Arnold had even back in those days. Make no mistake, when he is discussing muscle and fat, the information he gives was cutting edge at the time. Pumping Iron showed the athlete side of Arnold, this interview shows the human side.
  • @Zane_Zaminsky
Fabulous video! Had the great pleasure of seeing in person the 1974 Mr. Olympia. Arnold was at his greatest physical condition. His competition: Franco Columbu, Frank Zane, Lou Ferrigno, Serge Nubret. Arnold was so far superior to everyone else, I was in shock. When he flexed, his muscles jumped out at you, almost like in 3D. No one else had this muscle finish. A night I will never forget.
  • Just when I thought I had seen every Arnie interview, what a pleasure this was... it amazes me how much he knew about the body and his understanding of human psychology in general back in a time when this information was not common knowledge... he really was ahead of his time even with the way he thinks
  • @sumit200in
His thinking and understanding of science of bodybuilding was way ahead of his time....salute
  • Fantastic find! He was such a well spoken, charismatic figure who changed the game for everyone. Really changed the paradigm on how the average person viewed bodybuilding back in the day. Some weird questioning from the lady a bit halfway through though lol.

This may be 1976 or 1977.. The nice thing about that vid is to watch Arnold off the juice (or with minimal maintenance dose) and in same time working out hard with free weights.. T bar and incline bench press. Plus simplifying bodybuilding to normal people and puting the sports on mainstream. Arnold was for bodybuilding the same muhammad ali was for boxing. And many of us today have good bodies or being in good health and shape because of him. What a legend. Thx for the vid.
  • @robertalsbury
This interview really showed the intelligence level Arnold had. Great one!
  • @2pac4life275
Pretty cool in this day and age how we can watch a news report in 1977 about an iconic legend.
  • @AP-ui7oi
Arnold is a man of vision, hard work and accomplishment.
