My pillow is fed up with what I have to tell it, but I will honour your request....

I'm reading King's "On Writing" so I can tell you how he captured the realism with Carrie and high school. Through the 70s he was a high school teacher, and he taught a few girls who inspired Carrie. He also got help from his wife (they were both in their twenties so she remembered a lot), and had a janitor job at a high school at one point when the idea really first came to him. So yeah, a lot of different things led to that realism.

The Long Walk is just so great. Excellent choice.

My personal favorite is The Regulators, the thought of this demon using a boys wild imagination to torment the suburb just gets me everytime and reading it is so enjoyable for me.
  • Great list. Everyone that reads King knows that character development is his strong suit. I mean he can come up with outrageous plots about anything as we have seen from him like Cell or Christine but also puts you in that situation just by characterization. I like your grouping of Wastelands, The Dead Zone and Cujo. Cujo is still my favorite that he has written that I've read. Very gritty, dark book and probably his most depressing and realistic. Besides having Cujo's perspective in the book which was spot on, what gets overlooked is the 2 families involved and their struggles that happen in our everyday society. Even though not his most popular book as the years have gone by it still has staying power in the mainstream because every crazy canine you run into, who do you think of?

I dont think any of his books are scary, but I love his character development in books
  • Thank you for doing this video. I find it SO interesting to see how different people rank King's qprk. I'd like to do this myself but I need to more of his stuff. Pet Sematery & Misery are my two personal favourites. You got me really intrigued by the Dead Zone.

I'm so glad to see The Dead Zone get some love! It might be my favorite King. Either that or Misery.
  • @Dunybrook
Wow! I didn't agree with most of your opinions but just love hearing people talk about Stephen King. Such a great and prolific author.
  • This is really interesting! I was thinking of ranking all the Stephen king books I've read but I also keep telling myself I need to read more πŸ˜‚

I’m currently on page 70 of It, it’s gonna take ages to read but I love it so far! I’ve only read one other book by King so far, and that was Carrie, which was probably a 4 star for me. I really liked it! I’m looking forward to reading more of his books.
  • @sydneyreads
we have the same favorite top two king books!! that's so cool because i know everyone has such different opinions on his books. i loved seeing how you ranked all of these.
  • @SharniandBooks
Great video! I've only just recently decided to start making my way through Stephen Kings work, I have a list of his books that I think I'll be interested in but I've only actually read one haha. I definitely won't read all his books because there are some I don't think I'll like. Lot's of the ones that you've ranked highly in your list are ones I plan to read, so hopefully I enjoy them too. I purposely started with one that I thought I would enjoy...The Green Mile. And it's now one of my all time favourite books. I also watched the movie directly after and I loved that too.
  • FINALLY a Stephen King YouTuber who's read EYES of the DRAGON. It was formulaic, but I'm a sucker for knights and castles and I enjoyed the story a lot.
  • @ElinorMahoney
Pet Cemetery is less of a horror novel than it is a drama tbh, it’s more about grief than anything else

Dude, this is such a cool video idea and I agreed with a lot of what you had to say here. This would be so hard for me to do.πŸ‘πŸ»
