It’s incredibly sad the amount of local Hawaiians being priced out of living on their ancestral land

I was driving by one day heading to the beach, and i got a flat tire right in front of this village. A very nice man came and helped me change the tire. They are very good people. And I really appreciate them. I only had $20 on me to give him, and he happily accepted it. I plan to go back and donate when I can.

I’m from Hawaii, Located on the Big Island. I just wanted to thank you for making this video and shedding some light on our homeless communities and how our economy is effecting us here in Hawaii. There are a lot of local families that are homeless and the ones who have homes have multiple families living In them as well, just to survive or make it by from paycheck to paycheck. But thank you again for this video.

The fact that so many locals can't afford housing anymore is honestly disgusting.

"Homeless is just a word. If you feel safe where you're at, you are home." ❤ those are some powerful words.
  • Twinkle is a such a beautiful soul who created an amazing community. The fact that these people have no negative things to say about their life is just such a blessing in thus world and more people need to understand what real love for your people is.

finally someone is talking about this, I used to live in Hawaii and whenever I tell someone I have to explain the problems and many are genuinely surprised.
  • @roboman2444
This place looks like a paradise compared to some of the homeless encampments in mainland USA. Shout out to Twinkle for making sure of that.

i worked out of that harbor for 2 years, the community never ever gave us trouble there. very nice and respectful
  • @QuirkyTJones
The little boy who took over around 10:00ish is a natural tour guide… he knows where everything is yet very respectful of how he talks about the people and the community. I know the dad said their “mischievous” but I think it’s more like they are “witty” bc they are definitely smart

"Homeless is just a word. If you feel safe where you are at, you're home." That was beautiful. God bless all the beautiful people living there.

Born and raised in Hawaii. I’m glad you’re bringing this to light for everyone who thinks Hawaii is all sunshine and rainbows.
  • I lived in Waianae side all my life. My whole family is Hawaiian and live Leeward side, but I was fortunate to live in a home. I recently moved to the mainland due to the rising prices, and visited family last year after 3 years off island. It's heartbreaking knowing how expensive the island had become, even after 3 years(tho it was always expensive) I'm just glad I grew up in a stable household, which is rare for Hawaiians nowdays

Thank you braddah brandon for going home and showing the world our aloha spirit through the tough times, i hope the world sees and knows how resilient my people are thank u
  • @justian65
As a local Hawaiian thank you so much for bringing awareness, you have no idea how much it means to us. I also wanna say if you experienced any kind of ignorance or racism during your stay just ignore them. We’re not all like that.

There’s a school connected to that camp, I attended Waianae High School from 1999-2003. This video in the bushes brings back a lot of memories of the westside of Oahu.. really humbling place. I live on the mainland now but I’m glad I got to experience the Waianae lifestyle growing up. Not too much people can handle the things u gotta endure with the Hawaii street life
  • @mellowmoods8393
This camp is just down the road from my home in Ewa Beach. What Twinkle is doing is amazing, and she deserves all the help she can get. It looks like they are going to have a nice community across the street and start building little homes for everyone, so things are looking up.
