June Really Disappointed Me | June Wrap Up, Haul, and Unhaul

Published 2024-06-29
Sharing my thoughts on all the books I read in June, several of which were very disappointing. Lots of recent released romances didn't live up to the hype. Also see the books I hauled and unhauled this month.

I think of enemies to lovers like a spectrum with subcategories: -true enemies to lovers (what you mentioned) -rivals to lovers -hate to love, etc.

Yeah, Ocean of Sin and Starlight agree with everything you said.

I didn't love Leather and Lark as much as Butcher and Blackbird, but I still really enjoyed it, especially Ethel. I can see where you are coming from with the giggling, and the song did make me cringe a bit. My two favorites from the month were Good Different by Meg Eden Kuyatt. It is a middle grade told in verse. The autism rep was fantastic. I also really loved Moloka'i by Alan Brennert. It is a historical fiction about the leper colony on Moloka'i and takes place from the 1890s all the way through 1970. The author did really well blending real history with fictional characters.

The Veiled Kingdom cover 😍 I’m very curious about Masquerade because I’m a sucker for Persephone/Hades inspired books 👀 but lol they always end up being 2-3 star reads 😫 I have been seeing some tragic reviews of Leather and Lark and IM SCARED 😅 🪴
  • I read 1 Holly Renee and didn’t like it, but I’m increasingly become interested in Veiled Kingdom. 🌿

Yeah the pacing in mirrored heavens was kind of wonky.
  • but the only reason dacre doesn't kill her and try to help her is because his dad and her made a deal to help his kingdom. he definitely hates her but grows to wanting her. and enemy kingdoms. I dunno, I consider it.
  • Last one so cool wish I can find books like that. Is it a romance?

🪴🪴 I am now very curious about Ocean of Sin and Starlight since KH is so well loved and I have yet to read anything by her (too many books/authors/ ,not enough time in the day) .
  • I really want to read veiled kingdom but I get angry about cliffhangers. 🫢 maybe I wait for the next book and binge them. Thanks for the wrap up! Good luck in July! 🎉
