As a kid, London 2012 was the peak of gaming.
  • @zy1an
5:05 I always loved the detail of Bowser pulling Jr. back from the edge a bit

Vancouver 2010 and London 2012 were by far my favorite games of the entire series. the amount of nostalgia i feel whenever i see the openings and hear the music to them omg

M&S at the Olympic games 2012 was the best to me. Had many fun events and modes/features.
  • @JasonRogue
I never got big into these games, but I always liked the concept and execution of these games.

They really phoned it in on the Sochi 2014 game which is why the the intro was so shorts, they skipped 2018 but i forget why, probably had to do with the transition from switch to wii u.

Let this sink in: Two game companies hire their mascot with superpowers(?) enter and compete in the Olympic Games almost every 2 years, winning gold and nothing else! I thought this was the best crossover Nintendo and Sega has ever done!
  • OH, fun fact! There was either a gamepro magazine or some other thing altogether, and there was this parody advertisement for Mario and Sonic at the Hunger Games, and it was the most morbidly hilarious article in the whole thing. I really almost wish that it became a real thing, but alas, we are perhaps lucky that we dont have to hear the characters die over and over lmao
  • Vancouver 2010 and London 2012 were (and continue to be) the best games in the series 🥇
  • You two really need to get more into the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. So many games, shows, stories, characters, locations, lore, art, music, and much more to enjoy present throughout all of it. (Double that when adding fancontent aswell, which the original creators actually support and encourage unlike Nintendo)

The Rio 2016 Olympics brought in some characters specifically from Sonic Lost World, and the Sonic Riders spin-offs. An interesting choice, even if it made some fans go "Why are they here and not so-and-so?"
  • You see, the DS and 3DS version story modes for all the games show the personality of Mario characters we don't see too often in games. Then, there's cross character interaction with Sonic characters. Everyone in gaming history seems to know each other outside of their own series. You see it in video games like this, movies like Wreck it Ralph, and in Series crossovers like Smash. They are also self-aware enough to know their game characters. Pretty cool, huh?

I remember all of these so well- especially London 2012. Also you guys really should look into the Sonic series more, there’s a lot to unpack there 😊

I would highly recommend watching the Sonic Frontiers boss fights/boss themes, including the ones from the Final Horizon DLC I've had that idea in mind since you did the Metal Gear Rising vocal themes reaction
  • I remember the commercials and ads for the very first Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games title. It was very surreal. I was more of a Mario fan back then, but the more I learned about Sonic, the more I was exposed to the franchise, I kinda shifted over and joined his side. I even wrote this story that essentially turned the game into its own movie. Good times.
  • 12:15 so yeah, you can thank Ubisoft for that. whenever the Olympics would roll around, Sega would obtain the game rights for them, and create the game for it. Ubisoft bought the Winter Olympics, and then just never gave them up (someone can correct me if I'm wrong.) I'd say that London was the last really great one. the first three were all on the Wii, and played very well into the motion controls, Then Sochi came out on the Wii U and they tried their best to incorporate the gamepad in some way but failed because it was the Wii U. Then Rio came out on the 3DS where for each event you could only pick Sonic, Mario, and 2 other characters from each franchise and sometimes a special character depending on the Event. Then the Wii U version rolled around a few months later. I don't remember most people talk about it (probably because the Wii U is cursed). Then the Tokyo Olympics came out but also SEGA made an official Tokyo 2020 Olympics game at the same time with just normal human characters. Tokyo is were they started allowing players to skip motion controls entirely and just use buttons (but also over complicated the motion controls for some reason.) As of right now we don't know if SEGA plans on making a 2024 because they always release them a few months before the start of the new year, so it would've been out by now. But considering Sonic Team have been trying to keep SEGASammy execs from drowning them for the past few years, I can't really blame them since their plate is probably full enough as it is.

The thing about Sonic and Mario racing is that Sonic always seems to be holding back his speed unless needed, but there was a game theory comparing Mario's speed in Super Mario Bros. to Sonic's speed in Sonic 1, and Mario was actually faster.
  • @sonickidpro
I grew up with this games when I was a kid and seeing those intros makes me cry of nostalgia

The purple cat is Blaze the cat ! A princess from another world who uses the Sol Emeralds she protects. Cool headed and hard on herself, she's still a little shy.
