James Baker: President-Maker (US President Documentary) | Real Stories

The Man Who Made Washington Work is the story of a remarkable politician and statesman who represents a time when a divided Congress got things done, and when presidents and politicians worked together.

James A. Baker III, now 84, helped get three presidents elected, served in top posts for two of them, and was a central player in some of the most momentous events of the late 20th century. With candid testimony from Baker, and first hand accounts from former presidents Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, and George Bush Sr, former Secretaries of State Condoleezza Rice and Henry Kissinger, and former Vice President Dick Cheney, as well as a host of other Washington insiders, journalists and historians, The Man Who Made Washington Work is an eye-opening behind-the-scenes story of power, persuasion and diplomacy at the highest levels.

Great documentary about a truly brilliant American diplomat. James Baker was right when he said “negotiations are about knowing people”…if only our current crop of elected officials could embrace that simple yet profound idea.

This was a thoroughly enthralling, insightful and compelling documentary to absorb. Fantastic work, thank you.
  • Im a lifelong democrat (socially anyway), even so i truly admire Jim Baker and for that matter almost everyone from HW and W's cabinet. The friendship and loyalty they showed each other over the years especially for politicians i really respect that

Love your works. We need more people like him, willing to compromise, and who won't see it as something offensive.
  • This was a tremendous documentary from beginning to end. Non-partisan and thoroughly engaging. Great interviews with Presidents Clinton and Carter - along with President H Bush and so many luminaries on both sides of the aisle. I enjoyed learning that Baker and Bush laughed and laughed whenever they were alone together.

I'm a huge admirer of James Baker, but neither he or anyone can ever convince me that every vote in Florida was counted properly, which will always leave the legitimacy of GWB's election in question. To me, that's an American tragedy.

Amazing to watch. I was too young at the time to know all that was going on.
