    My step-dad showed me how to set dowels using a drill. Pretty much what y'all were doing, but step-dad insisted it was 'resins' in the wood that melted together. All I knew was it was quick; the dowel spins in the hole, then suddenly 'grabs'.

    For the science olympiad bridge competition, me and my partner spent weeks trying to figure out how to get a piece of Balsa wood to stay curved, as our design was a Bowstring truss. So we found that soaking the pieces in ridiculously hot water overnight and then drying them in a mold for a few days worked really well. If only we had a vacuum chamber and a laser.
