I think the 3-sided chair was for "courting". The prospective bride and groom sat along with her chaperone for their first visits. The design allowed them to talk without getting too "familiar" by looking at each other too much.

Those chairs were used in hotel lobbies where strangers shared it.

My first thought when I saw the chair was that it may have been in an office waiting area. But, I think you're right, a dressing area for women.

I love that Antique mall. It's one of the few malls I feel have decent turnover of product. That one and 3rd Street Antiques in Puyallup are so much fun to just browse. You never know what you'll find in a random pop in, even if it's just a few minutes.
