All Strut, No Fret One Shots - The Maid's Tragedy

Published 2022-11-14
In the One Shots series I drink a single shot of something fortifying and then have a shot at telling you the plot of a lesser known Early Modern play in a single shot, with no cuts or edits. Today it's The Maid's Tragedy, a Jacobean revenge tragedy written in collaboration by Francis Beaumont and John Fletcher sometime around 1610. I managed to misname the Maid of the play all the way through, her name is Aspatia (I kept saying Apatia). This play was requested by Drew.

"A maidenhead, Amintor, at my years?" Thank you so much for doing this request for me, that was absolutely brilliant!!! Many, many years ago I did see a student production at the University of Queensland entitled "Jacobean Women on Stage" where they did two scenes from the MT: the wedding night scene and the murder of the King. It was wonderful. I would give anything to see the full production of this play, and I can't help but think it would make a fantastic screen adaptation. Once again, thanks so much, absolutely loved your one shot!.
