As a Croat I am amazed on how you didn't start any controversy whilst talking 15 minutes about the Balkans.

What if you wanted to have independence... But God said: Balkans

My family is from Postira, and I was first generation born in the united states. My childhood was very much surrounded with memories of Croatia fighting for independence. I dont think i could ever forget when my father received news that one of his brothers had died in the war. I also don't think i'll ever forget how happy he was when it was ended. I feel very lucky now looking back as an adult that my father was so extremely proud of having been Croatian. He spent a great deal of time teaching me about his country, and it is still something that my cousins who live in Croatia make sure to keep doing. I am very proud to be Croatian.
  • Modern day Croatia was named after White Croat people who settled there in the 7th century. Ancient White Croatia was located in Western Ukraine south-eastern Poland and north-eastern Slovakia-Czechia and Hungary. When Hungarians settled in Pannonia province, southern Croatia and northern White Croatia separated.

Croatia is a beautiful country. Visited there in 2018, we went to Split, Hvar, Zagreb, Plitvice and Dubrovnik. Loved it all!

both of my parents are Croatian, but i live in Canada so i've struggled a bit to truly understand the history of Croatia since i only hear bits and pieces from my family, but this was about as straightforward and unbiased as you can get, so thank you! I love Croatia so much. My parents recently got a house in Vodice so I cant wait to visit, the last time i was there was when I was like 12 or 13 years old.
  • @brxne

  • @bulletzgd10

  • Funfact: Zagreb under Turks: 0 years Belgrade under Turks: 500 years Croatian battle against Turks: 150 Servian battles against Turks: 0 "servian" heroes against turks: milos obilic (a guy which existence isnt proofen), skanderbeg (a albanian), uskoks (croats), zrinjski (croat), hajduks (romanians, bulgarians, greeks, croats etc. serbs dont have there own heroes they invented or steal from others
  • My grandpa was from Croatia and never got to meet him and learn about his homeland, so these videos help to at least give an idea of the country and connect with that lost heritage. Croatia seems like a place that has been through a lot but has remained resilent still. I don't understand a lot about its history and politics but I know it's a good place with good people.
  • @bagortenay1822
Talking about war with Ottomans and not mentioning battle at Siget is kind of heresy
  • I'm Polish and I must say it is so great to hear about Croatia. It's my favorite tourist destination and also a major ally for Poland in the difficult time. 🇵🇱🇭🇷
  • 1172 writes Helmold von Bosau from Lübeck after his trip through the Balkans: "...they are called Serbs, sons of the devil, without the yoke of God, ministers of all fith, who live in their places in a bastly manner, wilder than animals."
